"We're gonna be there on Saturday March 8, less than two weeks away," said Brian Templeton of Delta Generators as they prepare to come to Jamey's House of Music in Lansdowne, PA for an 8 p.m. March 8 show. "This is our first time there and we're very excited about it. I'm really happy we're going in there; I didn't even know about the place. Sallie Bengtson of Nola Blue Records hipped me to that because I had told her that I was looking for some places to play in her area and she suggested that place and luckily they were open. We hit at 8 p.m., I think they start serving food around 6 p.m."
Templeton and his band mates have individually and/or collectively worked with music luminaries such as Jerry Portnoy, James Cotton, Ben Orr, Aerosmith, Stone Temple Pilots, INXS and many others; how did this band come together especially with such individual successes?
"We're out of Boston, all of us born and raised, lived in Boston our whole lives," stated Templeton. "Right now, we're kind of spread out; I actually live in Southern New Hampshire now, I own a farm up here with my wife, I'm a farmer by day and a singer by night. I'm originally from the Mission Hill area. I was born and raised ight downtown and the other guys are all from just outside of Boston; now they're all kind of spread out. One guy lives in Connecticut and two of the guys are in Massachusetts."
"The band was formed about 15 years ago and I've been with the band for about eight years," he went on, "They had another great, great lead singer who decided to move on to a different project and I was lucky enough that they called me up and asked me to join. So, there is nothing better than a front man lead singer to come into a band where the guitarist, bass player and drummer have been playing together for like seven or eight years. So, it's a solid situation that I walked into. Our guitarist's name is Charlie O'Neal, his brother Rick O'Neal on bass and our drummer is Jeff Armstrong and they've been playing together for a long time. So, yeah, there is no leader so to speak, it's a true band, all for one, one for all; it's a really great situation to be in. I'll pull out the acoustic guitar every once in a while for some of the stuff where I can kinda strum along. I don't call myself a guitar player but I'm a big fan of strumming the acoustic and I do that two or three songs a show; I'm mostly a harp player and singer and I've been doing that for over 30 years."

Delta Generators, an interesting name that does lend to one possibly thinking they are a Blues or maybe a Zydeco band but when pressed about the name, Brian answered without hesitation and a loud laugh.
"You know, I can't answer that question with certainty because the band was named eight years before I joined and I did ask the guys and I don't remember. It's one of those things where, whenever anybody starts a band, there is this ritual that everybody goes through where 200 names are thrown out, half of them are jokes and none of them are any good and then, something weird happens and you go, yeah, that needs to be the name. It's kind of funny but yeah, it certainly sounds bluesy (Laughs)."
With four studio and one live album to their credit, a "Bluesy" name and 15 years of experience; what about their music and did his joining alter the band's course at all?
"The music is Blues based of course but we like to take it in a lot of different directions. I'm a big fan of Rock and Pop; I wouldn't say what we do is so much Pop but it's kind of Rock-Blues with some Pop feelings in it. We're a very driving band and I'm a big fan of getting people up to dance so we do a lot of good grooves.I think maybe I've brought us a little bit more towards those Pop things, only because I'm a big fan of harmony vocals. So, when I write songs, I like to do a lot of Pop type hooks with a lot of vocals. The Delta Generators have always been very diverse but once again, coming from a solid Blues foundation. I am the only lyricist but the music is created by all four of us. Charlie, our guitar player, is the foundation of that. He is really good at putting together his ideas with drum loops and he can play guitars and bass on it and then send me the bare bones of it, I come up with the words and then together as a band, we form it into the full songs."
"I tend to write in phases," he continued. "I'm a father of six kids and I'm running a farm here and I'm doing different projects musically; mostly Delta Generators but I sometimes play under my own name. I have a record coming out next month where I'm working with this guy Kid Ramos out of California so, I do different things. I tend to write where I get these bursts of creativity and I'll bang out a whole bunch of tunes and then I'll have these dry spells. That's the basis of it but then I'll also be driving and I'm always getting lyrical ideas and I'll have to pull over and type it into my phone. So, there is no real one formula for me, I believe, for the most part, that the songs are coming from somewhere else and I'm lucky enough to be able to tune in and get them. Sometimes, I'll strum some chords on a guitar and write lyrics to that and other times, I have lyrics and they'll go with music that Charlie already wrote. So, there is no real straight ahead formula for me; which is how I kind of live my life (Laughs)."
Templeton admits that he does not mind living his life in a way that allows for less planning and more discovery, citing that doing too much of something, such as research can sometimes be detrimental to the end result; especially as a musician or songwriter where just chatting can spawn new ideas.

"Obviously there are times where research can help you especially if you're writing a blog or something but if you're just trying to interview somebody; I can't tell you how many times I've been interviewed in my 30 years as a blues guy and the first question is; who were your influences? So, it's like, well, I can tell you everybody from The Beatles to Donny Hathaway to Hank Williams but what does that really mean? Do you know what I mean? Should I say B.B. King? Is there a person who plays the blues who wasn't influenced by B.B. King? I kind of like the idea of loose banter."
The band has big things happening after their Jamey's show on March 8 and rightfully so, they are very excited for the future.
"We head back, we have a few shows in the Boston area and then we're doing a 10 day run in Europe at the end of May. We're playing venues in Belgium, Germany and France and we're looking forward to that for sure. We did one last year and that was our first tour there; I've been playing over there for many years but that was the first Delta Generators tour of Europe and now we're following it up with another one and we're very excited."
Jamey's House of Music is located at 32 S. Lansdowne Avenue in Lansdowne, PA and tickets for the 8 p.m. show are going at a brisk pace. Visit https://jameyshouseofmusic.com/ to purchase or to discover more about Delta Generators, please visit https://deltagenerators.com/home

'90s alt-rock icons the Spin Doctors have released "Rock 'N' Roll Heaven," the second single from their upcoming LP Face Full of Cake, out April 11, 2025 via Capitol Records. Born of vocalist Chris Barron's musings on a rock and roll afterlife, the song imagines Heaven as a place in the sky where the beer stays cold, the mics are new, the guitars are old and amps go up to eleven.
