Rock On! This Week's Sound Bites...12/26/24

Rock On! This Week

A lesson I was taught more than 15 years ago was "Never write in the first person. Never say "I" or "Me" and for more than 14 years this space and this writer have abided by those rules; until now.

As the year wraps up, I would like to not only thank but point out some people and things for which I am very glad, appreciative and lucky to have in my life and corner.

In April of 2024, "Danny Coleman's Rock On Radio" celebrated 15 years of broadcasting. During that time, there have been more than 775 shows to date, approximately 750-760 different guests, five different stations, multiple affiliates, four engineers, two named "Art," a third engineer, "Dave," a fourth named "John" and the fifth also doubles as the best producer on the planet; "Producer Claire Henwood." There were also various co-hosts, photographers, a music director and others like Sexy Chef Wendy, Dave the Rave and even George's Mother who have added to the show's character over the years.

I could sit here forever and thank the countless sponsors, venues and people who have supported myself and the program since its inception as well as those mentioned above but words can't properly express my feelings for all of them as well as the listeners, guests and anyone who I have worked with throughout the journey. So, that being said, my deepest thanks go out to all of you for your support, your sharing of this column, my social media and attendance at any event I've had; you are the reason I've kept going.

Rock On! This Week

Through the radio program I was so very fortunate to meet the main man here at New Jersey Stage; Gary Wien, who graciously took my fledgling AM radio program into the fold of Thepenguinrocks.com and also offered to carry online my column which I was writing for the Trentonian newspaper; giving me yet, another outlet for my products. This space was first published here in September of 2013 and I can't even conceive of a day when it doesn't. Thank you Gary for believing in me, your support and the opportunities you've afforded me since we first met in 2009; you truly are the best.

In October of 2019, Ron Ungarini, aka "Trenton Blues" retired from 10 years of doing "The Cadillac Blues Show" on WWFM Trenton and WWNJ Toms River. He called me and suggested that I should consider taking over and creating a blues music show for the same stations. My reply was, "OK, who do I speak to and how do I get in touch?" To which he said with a huge laugh, "You don't really have a choice, I told them you'd do it." So, on December 30, 2019 I went to WWFM and on January 6, 2020, "Danny Coleman's Got The Blues" aired for the first time.

There is also the "Rock On Radio Indie Hour" and "Chip Off The Old Rock" which have evolved from those other shows and information on all of the above can be found at www.dcror.com should anyone be interested.

Recently, the 16th Annual Rock On Radio Christmas Spectacular took place, once again from Asbury Park Vibes with the blessing of and many thanks to Diane DiMemmo who allows us to do so from her beautiful space. During the second half, this host recounted a time in his life where he was, for lack of a better term, struggling. As I reflected upon the past, my past, I struggled to hold it together as I thought that more of us should be grateful for the things we have as opposed to focusing on the things we don't. What's the phrase? "Count your blessings not your wants." I didn't know "Rock Bottom" had a basement but through my troubles, I discovered just how good a life I had; I'm not judging, just suggesting to look for the good, it may save you as it did me.

Thanks to all of you, friends, foes, supporters, detractors, listeners, fans or anyone whose paths I've crossed; you've graced my life for a reason, have incentivized me to do this and all else and for that I thank you. Thank you for touching my life. My only hope is that I've brought joy into yours through this space and/or my radio programs.

Many thanks to Deko Entertainment for allowing me to use their incredible studio, to New Jersey Stage for this space each week and once again to all of you for making it possible.
