(HOBOKEN, NJ) -- Dust off your dancing shoes and get ready to move as the brand new Salsa series Música Hoboken comes to Sinatra Park. The Hoboken Business Alliance has teamed up with Riverview Jazz, the local non-profit that produces the Jersey City Jazz Festival and PierFest to bring an exciting new series to the Hoboken waterfront. The monthly events will take place April 28, May 19, June 23 and will feature a world-class salsa band, DJ, and dance instruction. The events are free to the public.
The series will bring some of the best musicians in the NY Salsa scene to Hoboken. Leading off the series will be Grammy-winning artist Doug Beavers “Titanes del Trombón”. The multi-talented trombonist also is an accomplished arranger (Spanish Harlem Orchestra) and runs a successful Hudson County-based record label (Circle9). On May 19th the Astoria Salsa Company, led by Grammy-winning percussionist Samuel Torres, will present their high-energy Latin-fusion style mixed with Colombian spices. The June 23rd event will feature Mitch Frohman & the Bronx Horns. Frohman, a longtime veteran of Tito Puente & Mongo Santamaria’s bands, has been a featured saxophonist on many classic recordings, including the theme from HBO’s Sex in the City. All events will feature dance instruction from Salsa Fever on2 and music from DJ Al Anton of Double A Entertainment.
“The Hoboken Business Alliance is excited to partner with Riverview Jazz for the first time to bring Música Hoboken to our beautiful waterfront”, Roxanne Earley, Executive Director of the Hoboken Business Alliance said, offering a reminder to those planning to attend to make dinner reservations for that evening as “the Mile Square City has the best restaurants to the most unique food experiences! We can’t wait to welcome residents and guests to enjoy all that Hoboken has to offer with a night of music and dance.”
“It is such a thrill to bring all these amazing artists to the Hoboken community”, says Riverview Jazz director Bryan Beninghove. “The setting of Sinatra Park is so incredibly special and the thought of throngs of people dancing to some of the best music around is just exhilarating. Many thanks to the generosity and vision of the Hoboken Business Alliance for making this happen!
Admission is free to all events. In case of rain, the events will be held at Stevens University Babbio Center, with the exception of May 19th, which will have a rain date of May 26th.
