Moonalice Reimagines Grateful Dead

Bay Area collective Moonalice have shared a spirited reimagination of “Attics of My Life.” Led by the T-Sisters vocal trio of Erika, Chloe, and Rachel Tietjen, Moonalice puts a soulful spin on the Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter-penned Grateful Dead classic. The single arrives during the week that is known to Deadheads as The Days Between, an annual global celebration of Jerry Garcia’s legacy. Moonalice will continue to honor Garcia this month when they perform at The Oakland Athletics Jerry Garcia Night on August 18 and at the second iteration of the Terrapin Presents: Sunday Daydream event on August 27.

Speaking on the new recording, Rachel Teitjen explains, “The beautiful lyrics and melody of Attics of My Life drew us to this song and it was the first Grateful Dead song the T Sisters recorded back in 2015. We had arranged it a capella but the song soared to new heights when we brought our vocal arrangement to the band and combined our sister harmony with the band’s exceptional musicianship. We hope you enjoy it!”

Comprised of the father-son duo Lester and Dylan Chambers, the T-Sisters vocal trio of Erika, Chloe, and Rachel Tietjen, and musicians Barry Sless, Pete Sears, John Molo, Jason Crosby, and Roger McNamee, making music is more than just a career; it’s in their blood.

“Attics of My Life” is one of the many T-Sisters-lead Grateful Dead songs that are part of the Moonalice catalog. Their inimitable, angelic harmonies can also be heard across Moonalice’s renditions of “Uncle John’s Band” and “Brokedown Palace.” Grateful Dead's music and ethos are essential to the band's history, and the Dead is almost an extended branch of the Moonalice family tree. Pete Sears collaborated with Jerry Garcia and Mickey Hart on his 1988 Watchfire album. Roger MacNamee became an advisor for the Grateful Dead in the mid-90s. Their friendship blossomed and MaNamee ended up playing alongside Bob Weir and Mickey Hart at political benefits for Bill Clinton and Al Gore. John Molo has toured as a part of The Other Ones and Phil Lesh and Friends, Barry Sless has performed with Lesh and Weir’s Wolf Bros, and Jason Crosby has also played with Weir and Lesh.

Moonalice recently partnered with One Tree Planted, a nonprofit organization focused on global reforestation. Since 2014, the organization has planted over 40 million trees in more than 47 countries across the globe. For every fan that follows Moonalice on Spotify, One Tree Planted will plant one tree.
