Lizzie Rose Music Room presents Ruthie Foster

(TUCKERTON, NJ) -- Lizzie Rose Music Room presents Ruthie Foster on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. Ruthie Foster is a five-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter who mixes a wide palette of American song forms, from gospel and blues to jazz, folk and soul. Doors are at 7:00pm, showtime is 7:30pm.

Described by Rolling Stone as “pure magic to watch and hear,” her vocal talent was elevated in worship services at her community church. Drawing influence from legendary acts like Mavis Staples and Aretha Franklin, Foster developed a unique sound unable to be contained within a single genre. That uniqueness echoes a common theme in Ruthie’s life and career - marching to the beat of her own drum.

Ruthie Foster was born in the small rural town of Gause, TX. Raised in a family of gospel singers, Ruthie first learned to sing during worship services at her community church. With a chapel-bred bravado trained on the works of powerful women such as Mavis Staples and Aretha Franklin, her sound grew into an inspired blend of blues, folk and gospel.

Seeking to define her own path, Ruthie left her hometown to serve in the Navy. She discovered her love for performing while singing pop and funk tunes as the frontwoman of Pride, a band that performed at Navy recruitment drives nationwide. Ruthie’s time with Pride provided a window into varying American cultures coast to coast, and after her service she moved to New York City to pursue a career as a professional musician.

Tickets are $72.00 in advance, $80.00 at the door.  Advance tickets are available for purchase online. Lizzie Rose Music Room is located at 217 East Main Street in Tuckerton, New Jersey. Free parking is available.

Her numerous wins at the Blues Music Awards include three for Best Female Vocalist, one for DVD of the Year for Live At Antone’s, and the 2023 award for Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year. She is a 2024 inductee to the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame. Foster was named Best Female Vocalist at the 2013 Austin Music Awards, and in 2016 she was nominated for two Living Blues Awards and won the Koko Taylor Award for Best Traditional Female Blues Artist. Her list of honors also include a nomination from the Living Blues Awards for Best Live Performer.

Lizzie Rose Music Room is a "listening room", not a bar or restaurant.  They present a variety of music including blues, jazz, bluegrass, country, rock, soul, singer-songwriters, and more.

MORE NEWS

Serendipity ruled the day last week when my wife Irene Fizer spotted an upcoming outdoor concert taking place in the Hudson Valley,  featuring the singer-songwriter Julie Byrne and the harpist Mary Lattimore.  Irene and I had been planning to check out the event space–the Storm King Arts Center in New Windsor, New York–for quite a while, as we’ve passed the Center several times over the past few years, on our way to DIA-Beacon. So, we felt fortunate to secure two tickets a few days before the show, and we started to plan what to pack for our al fresco dinner.  Although we missed the chance to partake in the picnic specials offered by several food vendors at the Center that night, we filled our own picnic basket with some gluten-free treats, and then set out for an easy hour-and-20 minute drive north, from our home in New Jersey to the Hudson Valley.
