(HACKENSACK, NJ) -- Join Latin GRAMMY-nominated artist Gregorio Uribe at the Hackensack Performing Arts Center (HACPAC) on Saturday, November 9, 2024 for an unforgettable night of cumbia and other infectious Colombian rhythms, as he infuses the music with vibrant energy, dance, and joy, weaving in literary allusions and mythological references that have shaped his life and career. Showtime is 8:00pm.
Gregorio Uribe is a Latin Grammy nominated singer-songwriter and accordionist who has presented his music with the same passion and tenacity at Carnegie Hall and Madison Square Garden as he has on the streets of Tierra del Fuego or the patios of Montes de María of his native Colombia. He has also collaborated and shared the stage with stars in various musical genres, like the acclaimed Rubén Blades and Carlos Vives, jazz icon Paquito D’Rivera, and masters of ancestral Colombian music such as Martina Camargo and Diego Obregón.
He most recently released his third album, “Hombre Absurdo,” in early 2023 for which he received his first Latin Grammy nomination. On a conceptual level, this album adds flavor, dance, joy and rhythm to literature and mythological references, elements which are very present in Gregorio, himself. It is inspired by the musical stylings of minstrels from the countryside of the Colombian Caribbean and the lyrics are a reflection of books by great existentialist authors, Greek myths, and reflections on post-modernism. Accompanied by a strong presence of the accordion and powerful Colombian groves from the Caribbean with the distinctive vigorous sounds of percussion, this album is a remarkable musical creation in which Gregorio lets his musical influences flow, as well as his instinct and experience as a singer songwriter and orchestrator.
Prior to “Hombre Absurdo,” the Berklee College of Music alumni had released two lauded productions of his own. His first album as a singer-songwriter entitled, “Pluma y Vino,” included colorful styles like the bolero, the rumba, the waltz, and the marimba guapireña among other musical rhythms.
His second release was the big band extravaganza, “Cumbia Universal,” featuring Latin icon Ruben Blades, in which he fused rhythms of the Colombian Caribbean such as cumbia, chandé and porro, with big band jazz arrangements. This unique production achieved a global sound by including guest artists from Senegal, Israel, Portugal, and Argentina.

"This is my first time at The Lizzie Rose, I like places like that. I'll be doing one continuous 90 minute set and I'll be there afterward selling tee shirts and CDs that are out right now. There is no opening act and I prefer it that way," laughed James "Biscuit" Rouse as he discussed his new album, "Biscuit and Buddy" and his upcoming January 10 show at The Lizzie Rose Music Room in Tuckerton, NJ. My guitarist said to me, "Why don't you have an opening act?" To me, it doesn't really matter, I'm just ready to start playing this music whether I'm the opening act or the headliner, it doesn't matter."
