John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band "Eddie And The Cruisers II"
Released in 1989
A few years after the first "Eddie & The Cruisers" film came a sequel. As with the original film, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown band were behind the music.
The film takes place decades after the Cruisers (a popular Jersey band) were stars and Eddie Wilson (the band's lead singer) had faked his own death. The band's music became hits again. The record company got the lost recordings of a Cruisers album that the label had originally turned down and released them with a twist.
Inside the studio recordings was an additional recording which sounded like Eddie Wilson and various blues musicians like B.B. King. The label starts releasing one track at a time with a campaign based around the idea that "Eddie Lives!" since the body was never found.
Meanwhile, up in Canada, Eddie Wilson has put together a new band with songs that sound a bit different from the Cruisers. IMO, some of John Cafferty's best work are on this soundtrack. It's very different music from the first movie, but very good stuff as well.
Each year-end coverage of Makin Waves features "The Dirty Jersey Dozen," a list of the 12 indie Jersey music acts that made the most waves. Two bands that likely would be on the all-time Dirty Jersey list are Gigantic, a Jersey Shore trio inspired by the primal pop of The Pixies and Nirvana, and Alternative Tentacles recording act Buzzkill, also a trio from the days when New Brunswick was the state's best music scene.
