'On Banjo' with Alison Brown

There was a time when I would have told you that my knowledge of the banjo was limited to whom I considered one of the most famous banjo players, who also happens to be my favorite musical amphibian, Mr. Kermit The Frog. "The Rainbow Connection" a la "The Muppet Movie" as performed by the little green dude, the world's greatest producer, was my first introduction to the string instrument and will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Rock On! This Week's Sound Bites...3/20/25

"Ummm, I don't know. I've done a few of these and I think I did one with Jason (Bonham). I don't know who else is going to be at this one coming up but they always have really interesting people involved so it will be great. My involvement is; over the years, I've been a counselor. So, I'll come in and spend a week with the campers and we'll build a band and write songs and pull off an acoustic performance and meet with the celebrities who come in at the end of the week. They'll spend time with us and listen to our compositions, jam with us and then we'll all go out to dinner, take pictures and this and that. This time, I'm gonna be the special guest who comes in at the end, I'm not doing the counseling. So, I'm the guy who comes in at the end and critiques their playing, songwriting and their performance and jams along with them, takes pictures and so forth; it's a little different role for me than I'm used to doing but I've been involved with the camps for many years so..."

New Release Review - "Black Bag"

The 1934 mystery classic The Thin Man famously climaxes with the married heroes - amateur sleuths Nick and Nora Charles - throwing a dinner party designed to flush out the person responsible for the murder they've spent the movie attempting to solve. Director Steven Soderbergh and writer David Koepp draw heavily from The Thin Man for their spy thriller Black Bag. Their movie similarly climaxes with a tense dinner party, one which resolves itself almost exactly like its '30s predecessor, but it also opens with a dinner party, one purposely designed to set its guests on edge.
