Newton Theatre presents The Fixx and Jill Sobule

originally published: 03/16/2025

(NEWTON, NJ) -- The Fixx will perform at The Newton Theatre on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 8:00pm.  Special guest Jill Sobule will open the night. The FIXX has been often heralded as one of the most innovative bands to come out of the MTV era.

Instantly recognizable, The FIXX sound is unmistakably unique and stands out among the thousands of artists filling the airwaves. Songs such as “One Thing Leads To Another”, “Red Skies” and “Saved By Zero” remain everyday staples in television, films and on radio stations that continue to break new acts inspired by the era that The FIXX helped to define.

The FIXX were then, and still are now; Cy Curnin on vocals, Rupert Greenall on keyboards, Jamie West-Oram on guitar, Adam Woods on drums and bassist Dan K. Brown.

Tickets range from $39-$54 and are available for purchase online. The Newton Theatre is located at 234 Spring Street in Newton, New Jersey.

Opening the night is Jill Sobule.  Her work is at once deeply personal and socially conscious, seriously funny and derisively tragic. In a dozen albums spanning three decades of recording, the Denver-born songwriter/guitarist/singer has tackled such topics as the death penalty, anorexia nervosa, shoplifting, reproduction, the French Resistance, adolescent malaise, LGBTQ issues, and the Christian Right.

Her hits include “I Kissed A Girl”—the first openly gay-themed song ever to crack the Billboard Top 20—and the alt-rock anthem “Supermodel” featured in the film Clueless. Sobule was one half of The Jill & Julia Show, providing music while actor Julia Sweeney contributes storytelling. Jill is considered a pioneer in crowdfunding and is constantly exploring and creating new models for artists in an ever-changing music industry.

Her latest record, Nostalgia Kills - was produced by Ben Lee and released on her own Pinko Records label. Jill’s theater credits include a musical adaptation of the Broadway classic Yentl, Prozak and the Platypus, and Times Square.

The Newton Theatre was founded in 1924. It is a beautifully restored 605 seat performing arts center in the heart of Sussex County, presenting diverse programming, including world-renowned music acts, comedians, family productions, holiday shows and much more.
