From March 21-23, the Axelrod Performing Arts Academy (APAA) presents Beetlejuice Jr. The ghost-with-the-most takes the stage in this frightfully funny musical based on the beloved motion picture turned Broadway phenomenon. Lydia Deetz is a strange and unusual teenager, still grieving the loss of her mother and obsessed with the whole “being dead thing.” Lucky for Lydia, she and her father move to a new house haunted by a recently deceased couple and Beetlejuice, a delightful demon with a real zest for life. When Lydia calls on Beetlejuice to scare away anyone with a pulse, this double-crossing specter shows his true stripes, unleashing a (Nether)world of pandemonium.
“Our incredible cast of 25 students, representing 15 different towns across Monmouth County, brings an extraordinary level of talent, energy and dedication to Beetlejuice Jr.,” said APAA Director Mary-Kate Schmidt. “Their hard work and passion shine in every moment of the show, and we can’t wait for audiences to experience their amazing performance!”
Beetlejuice was nominated for eight Tony Awards in 2019 including Best New Musical. Beetlejuice Jr. is directed and choreographed by Justin Christopher Odon, with music direction by Tom O'Brien. Olivia Grausam is production Stage Manager, Emmanuel “Manny” Jean-Pierre is assistant stage manager and Mary-Kate Schmidt is producer.
