(GALLOWAY, NJ) -- The Stockton University Art Gallery is celebrating the architecture and iconography of ancient Byzantine churches in a brand-new exhibit displayed on the lower floor of the gallery until March 23, 2025. "Byzantine Reflections: Ancient and Modern in Church Architecture and Iconography" features three artists inspired by Byzantine creativity and its timeless influence: Ahmet Ertuğ, Christ Kamages, and George Kordis.

Ahmet Ertuğ’s photographs explore the sacred splendor of Byzantine churches, including the Hagia Sophia, the Chora Church and Cappadocia’s chapels in Turkey.

Christ Kamages’ architectural designs reimagine the ancient domes and arches iconic to the Byzantine Empire in a modern context. Those interested in talking with Kamages and learning more about his work will have the opportunity to speak with him during an artists’ reception event on Friday, February 28 in the Stockton Art Gallery at 6:30pm.

George Kordis utilizes traditional techniques and digital iconography panels to create monumental wall paintings. His techniques will be on display during an Artist Talk & Demonstration on Thursday, February 27, in the Stockton Art Gallery. (Time will be announced closer to the event.) Kordis is also scheduled to join the February 28 Artists’ Reception event.

"Open

"Open Book(s)" - Adventures on the wild frontier of bookmaking, and meaning-making, in the first floor galleries of Mana Contemporary

Books do not need to be beautiful objects to be cherished. Many indispensable books on my shelf were in poor condition when I brought them home from the shop. The publishers who put out the cheap yellow-page paperbacks that rocked my world and set my course when I was a child didn’t give much consideration to font, printing, or paper stock. All that mattered was readability. Could I open it fast, close it up quick, and chuck it in my bag when I was done? If anybody at the publishing company was making design decisions, those were their objectives. Any impediment to or distraction from the reading experience was unwelcome. They took it for granted that everything that mattered was inside the book.
