(MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- The Salvation Army Montclair Citadel proudly hosted its annual Christmas Benefit Concert on December 6, 2024, bringing the community together for an evening of extraordinary music and meaningful celebration of service.
The event featured special performances by professional trombonists Colin Williams of the New York Philharmonic and Nikki Abissi of the Stiletto Brass Quintet, as well as the New Jersey Homeschool Association Chorale under the direction of Beth Prins. The Montclair Citadel Band, led by Mark Baker, delighted attendees with stirring renditions of cherished Christmas carols.
The concert raised over $12,500 to support critical Salvation Army programs, including The Cornerstone House Shelter, daily meal services, holiday assistance, and comprehensive case management for individuals and families in need. Sponsors such as Dillon Musical Instruments, Haven Savings Bank, and The Salvation Army New York Staff Band played a key role in the success of this event.
A significant highlight of the evening was the presentation of the esteemed “Love Beyond” Award to Lieutenant Tyrone Williams of the Montclair Police Department. Lt. Williams, a dedicated member of the Montclair Citadel’s Advisory Board, was honored for his tireless commitment to serving the community.
“We were thrilled to celebrate Lt. Tyrone Williams of the Montclair Police Department by presenting him with this year’s ‘Love Beyond’ Award,” said Major Carl Avery of The Salvation Army Montclair Citadel. “Love must extend beyond Christmas, and Lt. Williams’ actions and faithful service clearly demonstrate his care and compassion for those in need. Our community is a better place because of his service.”
This year, The Salvation Army Montclair Citadel served 400 individuals at its Thanksgiving lunch and will be assisting more than 100 families through its toy distribution. The Salvation Army extends its gratitude to all who contributed to this remarkable evening and its commitment to providing support and hope to those in need year-round.
