(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- On Friday, December 6, 2024, Art House Productions & Tris McCall present Songs & Stories. McCall and his band will present twelve of these songs alongside McCall's Almanac, a collection of corresponding short stories. Showtime is 8:00pm. Admission is free.
In 2015 and 2016, Tris McCall left New Jersey to discover (the rest of) America. In each city he visited, he wrote a short story, and then a song narrated by the story's main character. During his travels, the journalist, novelist, musician and critic would write more than thirty combinations of songs and stories. Many of those stories have never been read, and more than a few of those songs have never been heard.
Expect reflections on the country we've discovered, gavel-like banging on the piano and drums, economical melodies and philosophical sentences, wry jokes, feather-light paragraphs and dense harmonies, and some surprisingly catchy choruses, too. The book, which'll be available after the show, is illustrated by Sean Suchara, creator of the "How to Summon an Elemental" exhibition at SMUSH Gallery.

Art House Productions was founded in late September 2001 by Christine Goodman, a community leader and professional performing artist. Art House's inaugural event, held shortly after September 11th, sprung from the desire to connect a devastated community through art and dialogue. Since then, Art House has established itself as a pioneer of artistic and cultural programming in Jersey City producing new theatrical work, dance, comedy, and visual arts programming that is innovative, fresh, and multi-disciplinary. Art House Productions has established itself as a cultural landmark in Jersey City, attaining non-for-profit status in 2007 and presenting work at a professional level—but the spirit of community that led to the organization’s inception still guides its artistic programming.
In 2007, Art House became incorporated and was granted nonprofit 501(c)(3) status. In late 2007, the organization was presented with the Key to the City and an official Proclamation for its outstanding contributions to the City of Jersey City, NJ. In 2017, Meredith Burns was selected to serve as the organization's second Executive Director.
In 2021, Art House Productions merged with Jersey Art Exchange (JAX) to increase and enhance existing education programs.
In 2023, Art House Productions moved into a permanent performing and visual arts center at The Hendrix in Jersey City, NJ steps from the Grove St. PATH Station. The development comes courtesy of SILVERMAN, The Albanese Group, and Liberty Harbor. The state-of-the-art facility includes a gallery, black box theater with dressing rooms, and administrative offices.
