(HACKETTSTOWN, NJ) -- Jazz fans will get two for the price of one at Rutherfurd Hall on Sunday, December 1, 2024 with the presentation of the PBS documentary "Jimmy Van Heusen's Swingin' with Frank and Bing" followed by the live sounds of Latin, Brazilian band, Cubano Be, Cubano Bop.
Doors for the event open at 12:30pm, with the documentary set to start at 1:00pm. The live concert begins shortly after the film ends.
Van Heusen wrote the music for many of Sinatra's greatest hits including "Come Fly With Me" and "Come Dance With Me," as well as music for numerous Bing Crosby tunes. In all, Van Heusen wrote the music for Sinatra for some 70 songs, collaborating with the Chairman of the Board for 27 years.
Van Heusen, whose original name was Charlie Babcocks, changed it after he saw an ad for a Van Heusen dress shirt.
"Anybody with any interest in Frank Sinatra will absolutely love this film," said organizer Ed Coyne, who has been promoting jazz shows in the Hackettstown area for many years. "It will bring back a lot of history and memories for a lot of people."
The live concert features one of the most renowned Latin and Brazilian jazz bands, the 7-piece Cubano Be, Cubano Bop. Two members of the band formerly played with the Tito Puente Band. As part of its set, the band will incorporate some of Van Heusen's songs into Latin style jazz.
The event is presented by Ed Coyne Enterprises and WRNJ Radio. Tickets are $35 each and are available for purchase or in person in Hackettstown at Jack's Scissor Wiz on Main Street or Mama's Cafe Baci on Mountain Avenue.
