John T. Peters Appointed Executive Director of Hackensack Performing Arts Center

originally published: 10/30/2024

(HACKENSACK, NJ) -- The Hackensack Performing Arts Center (HACPAC) announced the appointment of John T. Peters as its new Executive Director. Peters, a seasoned executive with decades of experience in management, marketing, public relations, and technology, will continue his current role as Executive Director of the Main Street Business Alliance (MSBA) while leading HACPAC into its next phase of growth.

With a distinguished career that spans entrepreneurship, corporate leadership, and public sector roles, Peters brings a wealth of expertise to HACPAC. He grew and successfully sold two companies, including a technology firm (where he was CEO) and an international tourism company he co-founded, both acquired by industry leaders. Notably, Peters also served as president of travel media at USA Today, overseeing large-scale operations. His recent leadership at the MSBA has contributed to the revitalization of Downtown Hackensack’s Special Improvement District, where, under his guidance, the area has seen significant growth and increased business engagement.

In addition to his executive roles, Peters is the author of Marketing on Main Street (BWC Press), a practical guide aimed at helping small business owners thrive. At HACPAC, he will collaborate closely with Gregory Liosi, the center’s long-standing Artistic Director, to further strengthen its position as a cultural hub in Bergen County.

“I am excited to take on this new role with HACPAC,” said Peters. “The MSBA and HACPAC already share a strong collaborative relationship, and I look forward to working alongside Greg, Lynne, the Board, and the city to continue transforming the center into a thriving destination for arts and culture.”

“John’s background and his great work on Main Street is the perfect mix of what we need to get to the next level,” said Lynne Algrant, president of the HACPAC Board of Directors. “He’s been very successful at the MSBA, and we’re very confident in his ability to develop and execute his strategic plan for the HACPAC.”

“Good leaders enter a new organization with great ideas. Great leaders converse with those who came before them before formulating a plan to ensure they bring creativity and opportunity. John came in and, before proposing monumental changes, spent time with each of the board members before he went to work. I am grateful we get to have him and look forward to seeing where he takes this eclectic crew and amazing cultural arts center from here,” said Lawrence Inserra III of the HACPAC Board and President of PriceRite Supermarkets.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with John at the MSBA where I’m Chairman, and I can’t wait to see what John will accomplish at HACPAC,” said Edward Decker, Chairman of the Main Street Business Alliance and HACPAC board member.

While he is already building his strategic plan, Peters will officially start on November 15, 2024. HACPAC is located at 102 State Street in Hackensack.

The Hackensack Performing Arts Center (HACPAC) is a vibrant venue that brings together local, national, and international artists across various disciplines, including music, theater, dance, and visual arts. With intimate spaces designed to foster a direct connection between performers and audiences, HACPAC is dedicated to enriching the cultural landscape of Hackensack and beyond. Committed to community engagement, HACPAC hosts performances and events that reflect the diversity of Bergen County, encouraging conversation and connections through the arts.
