originally published: 10/18/2024

(PLAINFIELD, NJ) -- On Saturday, November 2, 2024, the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra presents "Americana Pops Concert" featuring one of their audience's favorite vocal artists, tenor Brian Cheney, at Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church. Maestro Charles Prince will lead the orchestra in a series of popular American orchestral and vocal works. Showtime is 7:00pm.

Orchestral program selections will include A Tribute to the Duke (Ellington) featuring “Caravan,” “In a Sentimental Mood”, “Sophisticated Lady” and Leroy Anderson’s “The Syncopated Clock” and “Bugler’s Holiday.” From Broadway musicals, we will hear selections from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific as well as Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music: Suite for Orchestra. Other iconic Americana pieces will include “Hoe-Down” from Aaron Copland’s ballet Rodeo and the rousing “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa.

“Hailed by KUSC Los Angeles as the ‘next great tenor,’ Brian Cheney, a protégé of legendary tenor Jerry Hadley, has gained international acclaim for his versatility as a true crossover artist.” He is equally at home in both Musical Theater and Classical genres. Brian will be treating the audience to a number of beloved songs from several operettas and Broadway musicals. Please join them in person on November 2nd to experience the riveting performance of Brian Cheney and bask in some of the great and uniquely American musical gems.

Tickets for the 2024/2025 concerts are now on sale and are available for purchase online. Tickets may also be purchased at the concert. Subscription concerts are held at the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, 716 Watchung Avenue in Plainfield, New Jersey.
