Makin Waves Song of the Week: "Woman Child" by The Cynz

By Bob Makin

originally published: 10/18/2024

The Makin Waves Song of the Week is "Woman Child," the first single from The Cynz's upcoming album due next year on Jem Records.

Hot on the heels of the celebrated “Little Miss Lost” LP released earlier this year on Jem Records, The Cynz have dropped the first single for their 2025 follow-up.

The pummel ‘n’ jangle of “Woman Child” is the Makin Waves Song of the Week.

As the Makin Waves Song of the Week, “Woman Child” also can be heard between 6 and 8 p.m. on Oct. 18, on “Radio Jersey” at ThePenguinRocks.com. If you miss it, you can tune in any time in the archives at The Penguin and Mixcloud.

The Cynz front woman Cyndi Dawson said she dug deep to tell the tune’s bittersweet tale. “It addresses the needs of women who crave the kind of love that is nurturing, maybe something missing from their childhoods, yet also enjoy love in an adult way,” Cyndi said. “I think we always crave what we didn’t have as children.”

Like most The Cynz tunes, the single was co-written by the band’s co-founding guitarist Henry Seiz. Like “Little Girl Lost,” it was produced and recorded by Jem label mate Kurt Reil of The Grip Weeds at his House of Vibes studio in Highland Park.

An official video will drop soon, Cyndi said, as will a second single to coincide with a late February U.K. tour with British power-popster Marc Valentine.

Also featuring drummer Mike Wretched and bassist Dave U.Hall, The Cynz are entering their 15th year together!

“We will be doing more touring for 2025 and more recording,” Cyndi said. “We are so happy to be able to do what we love.”

That includes playing nearly every weekend. Upcoming shows include Oct. 29, Cafe 9, New Haven, CT, with Cocktail Slippers and Stupidity; Nov. 2, Parkside Lounge, New York City, with Stupidity, The Cocktail Slippers, Palmyra Delran and the Dopple Gang, Undergang, and DJ Crystal Blu; Nov. 8, International Pop Overthrow, also Parkside, with The Midnight Callers; Nov. 15, The Burren, Boston, with Girl With A Hawk and Speed Fossil; Nov. 17, Otto’s Shrunken Head, New York City, with The Hip Pipps, and Jan. 15, Mercury Lounge, with Kanak.
