Pioneer Productions presents powerful drama: "Dinner with Friends" by Donald Margulies

originally published: 10/16/2024

(MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Pioneer Productions presents Dinner with Friends, the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Donald Margulies, from November 15-24, 2024, at The Stage at Fellowship Hall in the Morristown United Methodist Church (50 South Park Place) in Morristown. The play explores the complexities of modern relationships through the lives of two couples whose friendships are tested by unexpected revelations and personal crises.

With sharp wit and heartfelt moments, Margulies captures the essence of love, loyalty, and the often-unspoken truths that lie beneath the surface of our closest relationships.

In addition to the Pulitzer, the play received numerous other awards, including the American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award, the Dramatists Guild/Hull-Warriner Award, the Lucille Lortel Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award, and a Drama Desk nomination.

At the helm of this production is the masterful, veteran Pioneer director, Doug McLaughlin of Hillsborough, NJ.

Dinner with Friends holds a very special place in my heart,” said McLaughlin. “In addition to being a bittersweet and humorous examination of marriage and friendship, it speaks intimately and thoughtfully about how our expectations of happiness and connection can change over time. That tension makes for excellent drama, of course!  I’m delighted to direct this wonderful cast and collaborate with my Pioneer family once again.”

In "Small," an autobiographical play written and performed by Robert "Bobby" Montano, the story follows Montano as he races and fulfills his dream on the horse racing tracks of Long Island, New York.
