(VOORHEES, NJ) -- The Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey presents a colorful program featuring Ravel's orchestral transcriptions of iconic piano pieces in concert Sunday, October 27, 2024 at Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees. Showtime is 3:00pm.
"The title of this concert is ‘Ravel Transcriptions and the Musical Homage,’" said PSNJ Music Director James Allen Anderson. "Ravel was a master of orchestration as well as a composer, so it’s fitting to showcase both of those extraordinary gifts in works that were tributes to friends and influences who had passed before him: in his reinterpretation of Debussy’s ‘Danse,’ his own hauntingly beautiful ‘Pavane to a dead princess,’ as well as his ‘Tombeau de Couperin,’ named for the tomb of the French composer but dedicated to friends who died in World War I. We’ll also perform Ravel’s magnificent arrangement of Modest Mussorgsky’s ‘Pictures at an Exhibition,’ a musical memorial to an artist friend of Mussorgsky's that Ravel brings to life with a dazzling array of instrumental sounds.”
PSNJ takes the stage in three more concerts this season: its popular Holiday Pops on December 8, 2024; Price and Dvorak on February 16, 2025; and a celebration of soundtracks and symphonic works by John Williams on May 4, 2025.
Tickets are available at www.psnj.org/concerts for each concert or as a discounted subscription package for the full season or a 3-concert series. Eastern Camden County Regional High School Center for the Performing Arts is located at 1401 Laurel Oak Road in Voorhees, New Jersey. Free parking, bathrooms, and refreshments are available on site.
