Centenary Stage Company Offers Special Discount for Hackettstown Residents for Wednesday Matinee Performance of "The Weir"

(HACKETTSTOWN, NJ) -- Centenary Stage Company has announced a special ticket offer for Hackettstown residents for their production of The Weir by Conor McPherson. Residents can purchase tickets for $10.00 for the performance on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 2:00pm, with proof of a Hackettstown address at the box office.

The Weir is set in a bar in Sligo, Ireland, where local men swap spooky stories in an attempt to impress a young woman from Dublin who recently moved into a nearby "haunted" house, and then she spins a yarn of her own. The play won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play of 1997–98. In addition, McPherson won the Critics' Circle Award as the most promising playwright in 1998 as a direct result of the success of The Weir. The play was also voted one of the 100 most significant plays of the 20th Century in a poll conducted by the Royal National Theatre, London. It tied at 40th place with Eugene O'Neill's The Iceman Cometh, Samuel Beckett's Endgame and Arthur Miller's A View From The BridgeThe Guardian critic, Michael Billington, listed The Weir as one of the 101 greatest plays of all time in his 2015 book The 101 Greatest Plays: From Antiquity to the Present.

Hackettstown residents can take advantage of the special $10 ticket offer by visiting the Centenary Stage Company box office before the performance to purchase a ticket in person with proof of a Hackettstown address.

The rest of the performance dates and times for The Weir are Wednesday, October 16 at 2:00pm; Thursday, October 17 at 7:00pm; Friday, October 18 at 8:00pm; Saturday, October 19 at 8:00pm; and Sunday, October 20 at 2:00pm. Tickets range from $25.00 - $30.00 for adults with discounts available for seniors, students, and children under 12 for select performances with special Buy One Get One tickets available for Thursday evening performances. BOGO tickets can be purchased on the day of the performance at the box office in person beginning at 5:00pm.

The Weir is presented with special agreement with Dramatists Play Service.

Fund for Irish Studies at Princeton University presents a Conversation with Ireland's Abbey Theatre

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Princeton University's Fund for Irish Studies continues its 2024-2025 series with a conversation with members of Ireland’s Abbey Theatre: Literary and New Work Director Ruth McGowan and well-known Irish actor and Associate Artist Derbhle Crotty will discuss writing and performing in Ireland and perhaps offer readings from some Irish plays. Fund for Irish Studies co-chair and director of the Program in Theater and Music Theater Jane Cox will moderate the conversation on Friday, February 7, 2025 at the James Stewart Film Theater at 185 Nassau Street. The event begins at 4:30pm.

'Small' Brings Big Energy to George Street Playhouse

When thinking about occupations kids say they want when they get older, a list comes to mind – doctor, superhero, firefighter, etc. But not many would find their passion at the horse racing track and say they want to become a jockey. In "Small," an autobiographical play written and performed by Robert "Bobby" Montano, the story follows Montano as he races and fulfills his dream on the horse racing tracks of Long Island, New York. It does not stop there, however. The 90-minute play is a story of love, loss and more as Montano grapples with some difficult life decisions.
