Monmouth Arts to Hold Author Talk and Book Signing for Bill German, Author of "Under Their Thumb: How a Nice Boy from Brooklyn Got Mixed Up With The Rolling Stones"

originally published: 10/01/2024

(OCEAN TOWNSHIP, NJ) -- Monmouth Arts will provide a special author talk and book signing with Bill German, author of Under Their Thumb: How a Nice Boy from Brooklyn Got Mixed Up with The Rolling Stones, on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Kane Brewing from 7:00pm-9:00pm. The event is part of the organization's "Artful Experience" series.

Under Their Thumb centers on Bill German’s true account of his life with the Rolling Stones. His own life was reminiscent to Cameron Crowe’s 2000 classic film Almost Famous. German met the band while he was a teenager, shortly after launching his Stones-only magazine, Beggars Banquet. The publication lasted for seventeen years, during which time he traveled the world with The Stones, stayed at their homes, and witnessed their recording sessions. He lived the dream of every Rolling Stones fan until he eventually had to leave the life behind.

In this tell-all book, which includes many never-before-seen photographs, German takes us to the Stones’ homes, recording sessions, and concerts worldwide. He charts the band’s rocky path from the unthinkable depths of a near breakup to the obscenely lucrative heights of their blockbuster tours. And ultimately, German explains why his childhood dream came true and became a passion he eventually had to let go of. Rolling Stone magazine described German's book as "hilarious and sometimes heartbreaking."

The 90-minute author talk and book signing is the latest offering in Monmouth Arts’ Artful Experience series, made possible by the generosity of Kane Brewing Company. Founded in 2011 by Michael and Erika Kane, Kane Brewing Company is one of New Jersey’s largest and most celebrated craft breweries. It has been built around its mission to serve only the highest-quality, freshest craft beers using premium local ingredients and distinctive brewing techniques.

Author Talk and Book Signing tickets are $40 in advance for non-Monmouth Arts members and $35 for members and includes the book (“Under Their Thumb”). Books are first come, first served to the first 30 ticket purchasers. Tickets are available for purchase online or by calling 732-212-1890 ext. 100.   Kane Brewing is located at 1750 Bloomsbury Avenue in Ocean Township, New Jersey.

Monmouth Arts, the official arts agency of Monmouth County, enriches the community by inspiring and fostering the arts. Programs are made possible through funding from the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
