(SURF CITY, NJ) -- During World War II, some 600,000 Italians in America found their freedoms restricted by the U.S. Government. The Italian Cultural Society of LBI invites you to view the sobering cinematic account of their ordeal with the documentary film Potentially Dangerous, at the Ocean County Library Long Beach Island Branch on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. The event begins at 2:00pm.
The award-winning documentary produced by actor-director John Turturro details the tribulation of several hundred thousand people who suddenly became identified as “enemy aliens” and found their movements monitored and actions scrutinized.
Many were placed under curfew. Others were banned from their places of employment. Still more were evacuated from their homes and communities. The unluckiest landed in internment camps.
Despite the passing of 80 years, most Italians refuse to speak about the events that turned their lives upside down and placed them in conceptual crosshairs – until now. Potentially Dangerous brings their stories to light for the first time.
