(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- Take a virtual step inside a towering symbol of global cooperation with Dr. Jennifer Levasseur. The Curator of the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum will provide a visual guided tour of the International Space Station during her Ocean County Library Virtual Author Talk on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. The event begins at 2:00pm.
Gain new perspectives about space exploration and the intrepid astronauts in the forefront as Dr. Levasseur guides you through the Smithsonian’s Behind the Scenes at the Space Station and conducts a thrilling virtual tour.
If you’re curious about how the space station operates, or whether plants can grow beyond the Earth’s atmosphere, or what is the closest facsimile to a rest room among the stars, this hour-long discussion will clear the mysteries.
Behind the Scenes at the Space Station is a compendium of little-known facts about the space station, with dazzling photos and illustrations. It was launched in parts and built as it orbited. It completes 16 circuits of Earth every day, meaning that astronauts aboard see 16 sunrises and sunsets.
Dr. Jennifer Levasseur curates the Museum’s astronaut cameras, chronographs, the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station programs. Her first book, published in 2020, concerned the cultural significance of astronaut photography.
