The Arts Institute of Middlesex County Events in August 2024

(MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ) -- Throughout the month of August, the Arts Institute of Middlesex County is showcasing a vibrant array of arts and culture events, exhibitions, and shows. These events are free and open to the public.

August’s event highlights include:

* Master Gardener Butterfly House Grand Opening: Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County is hosting a series of community events at their “hoop house,” where Master Gardeners have nurtured butterflies throughout the growing season. Visitors can learn about butterfly host plants and participate in capturing butterflies for the house. The event will take place every Saturday and Sunday in August from 10 am to noon.

* New Brunswick Heart Festival: The State Theatre New Jersey, in collaboration with the New Brunswick Cultural Center, NBPAC, and Above Art Studios, is presenting the New Brunswick Heart Festival on Saturday, August 10, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at the State Theatre New Jersey. The event will feature a variety of outdoor, family-friendly activities, including dance performances, live music, dance classes for children, an Arts Market, craft vendors, face painting, henna art, caricatures, and giveaways.

* Dunellen’s Music in the Park: The Dunellen Arts, Inclusion, and Culture Commission presents its 8th Annual Free Music in the Park series this August. The lineup includes two exciting performances: “This Old Engine" on Thursday, August 8, and "Retro Ravin’" on Thursday, August 22. Both shows are at 7:00pm at Washington Park in Dunellen. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs to enjoy an evening of music and relaxation.

* EARTH Center 2024 Garden Arts and Music Festival: The Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County will host the Garden, Arts, and Music Festival on Saturday, August 24, from 11:00am to 3:00pm at Davidson Mill Pond Park in South Brunswick. This family-friendly event will feature live art displays, local musical performances, an ice cream truck, and interactive activities for children. The Arts Institute of Middlesex County will also present a ‘Share Your Foodways’ kitchen demonstration.

(TRENTON, NJ) -- The life and loves of noted area 19th century beauty Annette Savage will be the topic of a talk Saturday, February 9, 2025 at Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie. Titled "Le Jeu de l'Amour," the program, led by journalist and writer Dan Aubrey, will explore how Napoleon’s brother and former King of Spain, Joseph Bonaparte, and his American mistress, Annette Savage, found passion and pain in the Trenton and Bordentown region of New Jersey. The event runs from from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

(LINCROFT, NJ) -- The Monmouth County Park System will hold its annual E. Murray Todd Half Marathon on Sunday, March 9, 2025. This 13.1-mile race takes runners through Lincroft, Holmdel and Colts Neck.

Exploring American Literature of the 1800s with Cape May Poet Laureate Sylvia Baer

(CAPE MAY, NJ) -- Cape May's Poet Laureate Sylvia Baer hosts three 1.5-hour interactive online seminars via Zoom this March that delve into American literature of the Victorian age. "The Concord Gang" on Monday, March 10, 2025 highlights Emerson, Thoreau and Alcott. "The Amherst Gang" on Monday, March 17, 2025 features Emily Dickinson and Helen Hunt Jackson. "The Fear Gang" on Monday, March 24, 2025 delves into Hawthorne, Poe and Melville.

Steampunk Alchemy Fest presents the Clockwork Cupid Burlesque Cabaret

(NEW HOPE, PA) -- Steampunk is coming to New Hope and taking over Dharma Bums Bar with the Clockwork Cupid Burlesque Cabaret presented by Steampunk Alchemy Fest on Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 8:00pm to 11:00pm. The event features Music by A Halo Called Fred; Burlesque by Holly Ween, Esmerelda May, and Jaeda; Sideshow by Lady Gypsy Professional Monstrosity; and Comedy by John Minus.
