Rising Stars Shine Bright in "Constellations of Resilience" at Playhouse 22 this weekend

(EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- The Rising Star Resilience Project, an innovative program by NextGen Acting, is proud to present "Constellations of Resilience," an inspiring and powerful showcase by the students of the Rising Star Resilience Project. Performances will take place at 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday, June 28-29, 2024 at Playhouse 22.

"Constellations of Resilience" is the grand finale of the Rising Star Resilience Project, a unique and transformative six-month program designed for students aged 12-18. This innovative initiative focuses on the intersection of acting and mental health, offering weekly classes and masterclasses with industry professionals from Broadway, Hollywood, and the video game industry. The program aims to empower young performers by building their confidence, resilience, and emotional well-being through the arts.

NextGen Acting is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of performers, offering a range of acting classes for kids, teens, and adults. The Rising Star Resilience Project exemplifies this commitment, providing students with the tools and support they need to thrive both on and off the stage.

Join them for an unforgettable evening as their Rising Stars take the stage to share their stories of resilience, hope, and empowerment. This groundbreaking project has been made possible through the generous support of the Community Innovator Microgrant by the NJ Department of Children and Families Office of Resilience and has been expertly stewarded by NORWESCAP. The program's success highlights the importance of community support in fostering the growth and development of young artists.

NextGen Acting is an innovative performing arts school based in central New Jersey, offering a wide range of classes in acting, improv, voice-over, and on-camera acting for students of all ages. With a mission to empower and inspire through the arts, NextGen Acting is committed to providing high-quality education and unique opportunities for young performers. Kids and Teens will be learning all summer at NextGen Acting’s Summer Acting Camp 2024.

Playhouse 22, is East Brunswick's Community Theater troupe.  With more than 60 years of providing theater to residents of Central Jersey, Playhouse 22 has staged hundreds of live performances ranging from “Camelot”, “1776”, and “The Drowsy Chaperone” to plays like “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” and “Neil Simon’s Rumors”.  Located at the Elliott Taubenslag Theater at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center.

Fund for Irish Studies at Princeton University presents a Conversation with Ireland's Abbey Theatre

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Princeton University's Fund for Irish Studies continues its 2024-2025 series with a conversation with members of Ireland’s Abbey Theatre: Literary and New Work Director Ruth McGowan and well-known Irish actor and Associate Artist Derbhle Crotty will discuss writing and performing in Ireland and perhaps offer readings from some Irish plays. Fund for Irish Studies co-chair and director of the Program in Theater and Music Theater Jane Cox will moderate the conversation on Friday, February 7, 2025 at the James Stewart Film Theater at 185 Nassau Street. The event begins at 4:30pm.

The Tempest is Shakespeare's comedy about betrayal, ill-treatment, and the development of magical arts, all set against the backdrop of a plot for revenge.

'Small' Brings Big Energy to George Street Playhouse

When thinking about occupations kids say they want when they get older, a list comes to mind – doctor, superhero, firefighter, etc. But not many would find their passion at the horse racing track and say they want to become a jockey. In "Small," an autobiographical play written and performed by Robert "Bobby" Montano, the story follows Montano as he races and fulfills his dream on the horse racing tracks of Long Island, New York. It does not stop there, however. The 90-minute play is a story of love, loss and more as Montano grapples with some difficult life decisions.
