PHOTOS from 19th Annual BASIE AWARDS
 

(RED BANK, NJ) -- The 19th annual BASIE AWARDS, honoring excellence and achievement in Monmouth County high school theatre, took place on May 22, 2024. This year's ceremony took place live at the historic Count Basie Center for the Arts, attracting a capacity crowd for what has become the biggest night of the year for area high school thespians. Photographer John Posada was on hand to take photos.

 



Classic American Tales offers a free playwriting workshop in Cape May Court House
 

(CAPE MAY, NJ) -- On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, Classic American Theater (CAT) is offering a Playwriting Workshop for free at The Cape May Court House Public Library (30 Mechanic Street) in Cape May Court House, NJ. The workshop, for ages 17 on up, is geared for those who have written plays, as well as those who have always wanted to try their hand at it. The workshop runs from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.

Low Cut Connie has released a reimagined version of "Are You Gonna Run?" that was remixed by Little Steven and adds his signature lead guitar and backing vocals. The remix, out via Contender Records / Wicked Cool, originally appeared on Low Cut Connie's critically acclaimed 2023 album Art Dealers and was premiered via Rolling Stone.

Karri Li Receives Scholarship from Wharton Arts
 

(BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ) -- Wharton Arts, New Jersey's largest non-profit community performing arts education center, is pleased to announce the George Marriner Maull Careers in Music Scholarship Award, a $1,000 scholarship designed to support and encourage the next generation of musical talents, has been awarded to Karri Li, a flutist in the New Jersey Youth Symphony (NJYS) and a student of faculty member Laura George at the Wharton Performing Arts School.

 



Blues Wine & BBQ to Take Place in Gloucester County

Much like similar filmmaking forms, stop-motion filmmaking requires careful consideration and planning from those who choose to utilize it. The product is a beautiful testament to the film’s story and its makers if done successfully. For the case of the cinematically stunning Tennis, Oranges directed by Sean Pecknold, and enchanting and enthralling Judy’s Garden, directed by Evie Metz, this is incontestably the case.

(MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ) -- Piscataway's Nima Sedghi, a chemistry major at Middlesex College, was one of just 60 community college students nationwide to receive the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, which provides recipients up to $55,000 a year to complete their bachelor’s degrees at four-year colleges or universities. Sedghi was also the Class of 2024's salutatorian.

More Than Bootstraps Receives $20,000 Memorial Gift in Honor of Laurie K. Meyers and Robert J. Salberg
 

(PASSAIC, NJ) -- More Than Bootstraps (MTB), a New Jersey non-profit organization, has received a $20,000 gift to help support MTB's college access and success program in Passaic, New Jersey. Three Parent Fellows from Arts Ed Newark's Arts Ambassadors Program have been selected to receive Prudential Community Grants
 

(NEWARK, NJ) -- Three Parent Fellows from Arts Ed Newark's Arts Ambassadors Program have been selected to receive Prudential Community Grants. Six parent fellows applied, with Maria Oluwayemi of the South Ward, Oluwamodupe Idowu of the South Ward and Xilena Woods of the West Ward receiving between $2,500-$5,000 of funding for their projects, which will "increase resident access to opportunity and improve quality of life" in the city of Newark.

 



League of Women Voters Launches "Make a Voting Plan" for Arts Community for June Primary Election
 

(BERGEN COUNTY, NJ) -- The League of Women Voters of Northern Valley (LWVNV) wants the arts community to be prepared with nonpartisan information to participate in New Jersey's Primary Election on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. To prepare voters in Bergen County for what they need to do for the Primary Election, the League developed "Make a Voting Plan".
