(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- Rebecca F. Kuang's views of diversity, bias, and cultural appropriation reach new heights – and depths - in her compelling novel Yellowface. Join her for an exploration of these hot-button topics during her Ocean County Library Virtual Author Talk on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 7:00pm.
The New York Times best-seller Yellowface is available in print, audiobook and eBook formats at the Ocean County Library, along with Babel: An Arcane History and her Poppy War trilogy, The Poppy War, The Dragon Republic, and The Burning God.
Sharply written and darkly witty, Yellowface contrasts Athena Liu and June Hayward, considered to be twin rising literary stars. Athena becomes an exotic media sensation, sending June into eclipse.
Before she can publish an experimental historical novel that promises superstardom, Athena suddenly dies. June seizes the manuscript and has it published under an alias to gain what she believes she deserves. The ruse gradually unravels, and a desperate June is faced with dangers she never expected.
A Marshall Scholar, R.F Kuang earned degrees in Chinese Studies at Cambridge University and in Contemporary Chinese Studies at Oxford. She is pursuing a doctorate in East Asian Languages and Literatures at Yale.
