(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Candy Darling’s passing, The ShowRoom, in collaboration with Asbury Book Cooperative, are proud to present a special screening of the acclaimed documentary Beautiful Darling on Thursday, March 21st, at 7:30pm. This screening, in conjunction with the release of Cynthia Carr’s definitive biography on the iconic figure, promises an evening of reflection, celebration, and appreciation for one of the most captivating personalities of the 20th century.
Candy Darling, born James Lawrence Slattery, remains an enduring symbol of beauty, courage, and unapologetic self-expression. As a transgender actress and Warhol Superstar, her impact on art, culture, and the LGBTQ+ community continues to reverberate to this day.
Beautiful Darling, directed by James Rasin, offers an intimate portrait of Candy’s life, exploring her journey from a young dreamer in Queens to an enigmatic muse in the heart of New York City’s avant-garde scene. Through rare archival footage, personal anecdotes, and interviews with those who knew her best, the film captures the essence of a woman who defied societal norms and blazed her own trail with unwavering grace.
