(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Departed Soles, a downtown Jersey City-based brewery and Riverview Jazz, the non-profit producer of the Jersey City Jazz Festival have partnered to present a weekly music residency with "Bryan Beninghove & Friends". The series will take place Tuesday evenings 7:00pm-10:00pm beginning March 5 and will be free to the public.
Bryan Beninghove is a multi-instrumentalist that performs in a number of different music settings throughout the NYC area. His past projects include the surf-noir band Beninghove’s Hangmen, the French gypsy ensemble Manouche Bag, and a number of jazz groups. He currently plays keys and sax with reggae outfits The Brooklyners and Five Outta 12. Beninghove is also the executive director of Riverview Jazz and the founder of the Jersey City Jazz Festival.
“I’m really looking forward to getting something regular popping in downtown Jersey City again. Since the pandemic, I’ve mostly been in New York and I’ve been itching to start trying out some new music with some of my favorite musicians on our home turf”, says Beninghove. “Departed Soles makes delicious beer and it’s in a great part of town that’s convenient for everyone, so to quote Bart Scott - I can’t wait!”
Departed Soles Brewing, located at 150 Bay St in the heart of the Powerhouse Arts District, is Jersey City’s first brewery since Prohibition. Brant Schweinsberg of Departed Soles says “We are really looking forward to this partnership with Riverview Jazz. Music has always been important to Jersey City, and this is our opportunity to bring more music to the community we love. We invite you all to come out and try our selection of traditional as well as gluten free beers!"
Beninghove plans to present different configurations each week. These will include a chordless trio (March 5) with bassist Ian Kenselaar and drummer Noel Sagerman, an electric quartet with Rick Parker on electronics and trombone, Nick Jost on bass, Christian Coleman on drums, and Beninghove on keys and saxes. The month will be rounded out with a couple organ trio dates with Kyle Koehler joined by Baltimore drummer Mike Kuhl (March 19) and Noel Sagerman (March 26).
Riverview Jazz is a Jersey City-based 501(c)(3) non-profit that produces a number of community events including the 11th annual Jersey City Jazz Festival (May 29-June 2, 2024) and the inaugural Jersey City Latin Jazz Festival (September 14, 2024).
