Infusing elements of classic and yacht rock, supergroup, Studio D'Lux released their latest single, "Silence is Louder," on February 1st. Led by keyboardist and vocalist, Doug Kistner, Studio D’Lux features performances from drummer Liberty Devitto (Billy Joel), guitarist Jon Herington (Steely Dan), and vocalist Glen Burtnik (Styx), vocalist Reagan Richards (Williams Honor), bassist Malcolm Gold (India.Arie, Sheryl Crow) and Tom Timko on woodwinds (Gloria Estefan, Tower of Power).
In addition to his original work, bandleader and songwriter, Kistner, has performed with Trans-Siberian Orchestra, John Waite, Blood, Sweat & Tears and currently plays with Lords of 52nd Street and Summer of Love. “I think we are doing something exciting with songs like these and the all-star talent that we have in Studio D’Lux,” says the songwriter.
“Silence is Louder” opens with a riff on Kistner’s keyboard before he declares, “when you get no reply, you question the reasons why, but you know the answer deep inside.” The chorus features a "25 or 6 To 4” inspired chorus with Kistner leading Burtnik and Richards on a lush declaration of, “Silence is louder than words. Voices shout to be heard.” The bridge features a deft guitar solo from Herington, and the song is built upon the foundation of DeVitto’s unmistakable drumming and Gold’s melodic bass. Peppered throughout the track are layered vocals from all three singers and Herington’s guitar licks – stylistically cementing Studio D’Lux and “Silence” in the pantheon of classic rock.
“Part of the lyrical message of ‘Silence is Louder’ is that you can say a lot by not saying anything at all,” says songwriter Kistner. “I recorded the keyboard parts and a guitar part with a drum loop and sang a rough vocal at the Burn Room in New Jersey. Then we stripped away the loop and had Liberty lay down a great drum track at Cove City Sound on Long Island. Those sessions are always so much fun. Jon Herington has been on the last three songs. He records his guitar parts at his studio and plays exactly what you hope to hear and then some. Mixing and editing parts with talented engineers Marc Battaglia and John Arbuckle was a blast.” Studio D’Lux’s songs “Slow Burn” and “Ain’t Good Enough” are both being spun on The New Guy Show on SiriusXM’s Tom Petty Channel. "Silence is Louder" is available on Spotify. You can follow Studio D’Lux on Facebook, Spotify, and YouTube.Advertise with NJ Stage for $50-$100 per month, click here for info
