(SUMMIT, NJ) -- The Summit Playhouse presents Agnes of God by John Pielmeier. The production runs during the weekends from February 23- through March 9, 2024, at The Summit Playhouse. Summoned to a convent, Dr. Martha Livingstone, a court-appointed psychiatrist, must assess the sanity of a novice accused of murdering her newborn.
The Mother Superior determinedly keeps young Agnes from the doctor, further arousing Livingstone’s suspicions. Who killed the infant, and who fathered the tiny victim? Livingstone’s questions force all three women to re-examine the meaning of faith and the power of love, leading to a dramatic, compelling climax.
The production is directed by Karen Thornton. The cast includes Missy Renwick (Agnes), Jennifer Padley (Doctor), and Debra Carozza (Mother). Producer: Leslie Schwartz; Stage Manager: Christine Petruzzell; and Assistant Stage Manager: Paris Bate.
Performances take place February 23, 24 @ 8:00pm; February 25 @ 2:00pm; March 1, 2, 8, 9 @ 8:00pm; and March 3 @ 2:00pm. Tickets are available for purchase online. The Summit Playhouse is located at 10 New England Avenue in Summit, New Jersey. The Summit Playhouse lobby, auditiorium, lounge, and lobby restroom are fully accessible and ADA compliant.

The Summit Playhouse, a non-profit community theatre, was founded in 1918 as a World War I relief organization. Since then, they have mounted over 300 productions, and are one of the oldest continuously operating community theatres in the United States. They produce three Main Stage shows a year, with performances in November, February/March, and April/May. Kaleidoscope Youth Theatre presents a Junior production in December and July, a full-length musical every summer, and various workshops throughout the year.
Their community service includes a benefit performance of each of their regular plays, theater awards for Dramatic Arts students, and Summit community collaborations. Their Kaleidoscope productions have traveled to various outreach locations, including special education schools, nursing homes, and children's hospitals, to share our productions with those who cannot travel to see them.
