(MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Following on the heels of its tremendously successful 50th Anniversary Concert on December 10 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Morristown, the Morris Choral Society (MCS) is calling for singers to join the acclaimed ensemble. The group is open to all by audition and attacts members of all ages and backgrounds. Interested singers should come to rehearsal, which is held each Monday from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church (131 Mountain Way) in Morris Plains. Call 973-723-6424 with questions or to arrange an audition.
MCS performs all forms of choral music from the familiar such as Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus to the exciting Nigerian song Betelehemu or the popular Carmina Burana. The Spring Concert, which will be held in May in Morristown, will feature works by Verdi, Vaughan Williams, and founder and Director Emeritus Wayne Walters.
Funding for the Morris Choral Society has been made possible in part by Morris Arts through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, and by the Masterwork Foundation. MCS has a Go Fund Me page to raise money for its 50th Anniversary year in honor of Wayne Walters who taught for 36 years in the Morris School District. Mr. Walters has earned many honors for his work and Go Fund Me affords an opportunity for current and formers chorus members and former students to say thank you for his dedication.
The Morris Choral Society has two purposes: to make available to all Morris area residents varied choral music programs and to give residents an opportunity to perform in a choral organization. New members are accepted twice a year by audition, in September and in January.
