Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre presents Zapateo! (Footwork Dialogues with Flamenco, Tap, Mexican Dance)

(EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- New Jersey’s premier Spanish & Flamenco dance company, the critically acclaimed Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre, kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month at Playhouse 22 in East Brunswick, NJ on Sunday, September 17 at 2:00pm for a Middlesex County Hispanic Heritage Event with its exciting new production, Zapateo! (Footwork Dialogues with Flamenco, Tap, Mexican Dance). 

Alborada brings together on stage three great percussive dance genres: Flamenco, Tap, and Mexican Dance, in its exciting new program featuring footwork dialogues. Alborada’s Flamenco dancers and musicians, joined by guest artists: Tap Dancer, Jaye Allison and Mexican Dancer, Maria Tylek will dazzle audiences of all ages with pounding feet, strumming guitars, flying ruffles, clicking castanets and fabulous traditional costumes. From the 1930s NYC tap dance of the famous Silver Belles to traditional dances from Jalisco, Mexico and the soulful and joyous Spanish Gypsy Flamenco Dances, Zapateo will leave the audience tapping their feet and clapping their hands in rhythm!

Through dance, drama, and music, Alborada's passionate artistry reveals the many diverse and historical threads that comprise the multicultural fabric of Spanish culture.  Both entertaining and educational, the variety of its repertoire runs the artistic gamut from Spanish Gypsy Flamenco and Spanish classical and regional dances to cross cultural programs celebrating Hispanic, Celtic, and Moorish cultural influences and beyond.

"Noli Timere" is Latin for "be not afraid," and the name of the world premiere presentation from Director and Choreographer, Rebecca Lazier and Sculptor, Janet Echelman. The collaboration features eight multidisciplinary performers dancing up to 25 feet in the air within a voluminous, custom-designed Echelman net sculpture.
