Bryan Hansen Band to Celebrate New Single with Performance in Somerville

originally published: 08/23/2023

(SOMERVILLE, NJ) -- After a long pause, the Bryan Hansen Band is back with new music on Friday, August 25, 2023.  They will celebrate the release of their single “Death of a Yes Man” in Bryan’s hometown of Somerville, NJ on the town’s popular summer stage on Division Street.  There’s more new music to come but this track gives them a full reset; the band was thrilled to have three time grammy winner and current Dave Matthews Band member Jeff Coffin in the studio to provide the horns.

The single's release on the same day and the show mark the start of a new era for the band and you can expect them to release at least 3 new songs before the end of the year. Founding members and Godin Guitar sponsored Bryan Hansen and Will Blakey are happy to be back to one of their favorites venues, after a rain out earlier in the season and with a full band. Music begins at 6:00pm on Division Street, which is closed to vehicle traffic. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair and patronize the businesses on the street.   The shows are presented by The Downtown Somerville Alliance is a 501(c)(3) charitable corporation and the District Management Corporation for Downtown Somerville, NJ - one of New Jersey's premiere downtowns. The district has become known for its colorful dining scene, flourishing retail, and up and coming arts and culture scene.

"Death of a Yes Man" is about moving past burnout and reclaiming your life and creativity.  The band has done just that and they’ll come out swinging.  It’s no secret Bryan is a huge Dave Matthews Band fan with over 35 DMB shows under his belt. Jeff Coffin’s participation in recording the 4 year hiatus-ending single has given them some serious mojo. They are psyched to share the song with the whole town, albeit without a very busy Mr. Coffin on stage, for their biggest show since the 2019 release of a full album Gas Money.

"Of course we waited for the new summer stage date to drop the single," Hansen says "we wanted to celebrate here first, because this is where our family and friends primarily live. Their support has been a big part of what's kept us going and the best way to hit 'play' on this new chapter is in their company, combined with all the new people we hope to meet there too."

Gas Money, like all music at that time, stalled when COVID killed the opportunity to get out and support it.  The band has lived a lot of life since then, and they are ready to breathe new life into old and new tunes with a high energy stage show. They are bringing the blend of rock and roll and funk they are known for, in Somerville and all over the East Coast, to a new level.

"We're thrilled to present another summer of live music on Division Street," said Natalie Pineiro, Downtown Managing Consultant of the Downtown Somerville Alliance. "We've curated a lineup that includes something for everyone, and we can't wait to see the community come together to enjoy these talented performers."

The band's new music is leading up to an end of the year blowout music festival on the Jersey Shore (that can't be announced just yet) so come to Division Street in Somerville on Friday, August 25, stream the new single and keep watching and listening to find out what the band does next.
