On October 13, 2022, FIXT ENGLISH, the solo project from Jeff Sahyoun – guitarist of post-hardcore Letlive. – shares his debut single, “Lost It.” Written by Sahyoun himself, “Lost It” is a dynamic track that underscores the dark, yet hopeful lyrics that reflect on an all too familiar feeling of feeling lost and not knowing who you really are and where you fit into this world. The track aims to inspire those who listen to never give up on their dreams, even if the world is seemingly against you.
The music video, directed by Nick Scholey of A Fruit Salat Films and shot in Berlin, Germany and Los Angeles, CA, follows the sentiment of the lyrics as we watch our lead slowly break down under the societal pressures that can engulf our everyday life.
“‘Lost It’ reflects on the dichotomy of two subcultures in the world. It’s about learning how to find peace and balance when feelings of entrapment to a socially dominant lifestyle takes precedence over an individual's true passion and identity,” says Jeff. “The mental game of seeking unneeded validation from a world of rejection and abandonment that somebody was once a part of. It’s about learning how to start over in a new culture that feels foreign, while still trying to navigate between ways of hanging onto a past life that truly defines who you are.”
FIXT ENGLISH also announced the forthcoming debut EP, Erase Theory, will be arriving February 2nd, 2023. With Erase Theory, Jeff tracks that adventure, exploring the loss, betrayal, and heartbreak with frank vulnerability. Ultimately though, FIXT ENGLISH is an optimistic project of perseverance.
It’s been a long, hard and winding journey for Jeff Sahyoun to go from the guitarist of post-hardcore groundbreakers Letlive. to the sole mastermind behind the alt-pop might of FIXT ENGLISH.
As a member of Letlive. for a decade, Jeff was regularly playing upwards of 200 shows a year. When the band split in 2017 citing “a divergence in views and aims”, he was left feeling “lost, trapped and depressed.”
After two years of rejections and a life on the sidelines, Jeff took a job in construction – both to pay the bills and to remove himself from an industry that was getting increasingly more toxic. Grinding for the dollar during the day and working on college papers in the evening, Jeff slowly got himself back on his feet but never let his “love affair” with music completely burn out. A couple of days after he graduated, he went back and looked over the music he’d been writing and realized he had a finished record that told the story of balancing responsibility with passion.
After a lot of trial and error to find something that felt exciting, the end result is something Jeff describes as The Weeknd meets Nine Inch Nails but with nods to childhood influences David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin and Depeche Mode.
As much as FIXT ENGLISH (the name a reference to how Jeff uses music to communicate with the world) started as a purely selfish, if necessary pursuit, Jeff can’t help but hope it offers something to whoever listens.
