Rodgers & Hammerstein's "South Pacific" comes to MPAC

(MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Big League Productions, Inc. presents the innovative new production of the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning masterpiece Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific, which comes to Mayo Performing Arts Center (MPAC) in Morristown for three performances May 13-14.  Love transcends the harsh realities of war and prejudice in this sweeping tale centered around two unlikely love affairs.

Set on a tropical island during World War II, this timeless Rodgers & Hammerstein classic features some of the most beautiful music ever composed woven into an inspiring story cherished the world over. Winner of ten Tony Awards, the beloved score’s songs include “Some Enchanted Evening,” “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair,” and “ There is Nothing Like A Dame,” amidst big Broadway performances and a chorus of American sailors and Navy nurses ready to transport you to Bali Ha’i.

This breathtaking new production of the Tony Award-winning Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific is based on James Michener’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book Tales of the South Pacificand features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and a book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan. The Big League tour, directed by Jeffrey B. Moss, features dynamic multimedia video design by Jonathan Infante, with choreography by Bob Richard. Scenic design is by Randel Wright, with costume design consultation by John Beltre, lighting design by Charlie Morrison, sound design by Don Hanna, orchestrations by Matthew Lowy and casting by Alison Franck. 

Performances take place Friday, May 13 at 8:00pm; Saturday, May 14 at 2:00pm; and Saturday, May 14 at 8:00pm. Tickets are $59-$99 and available for purchase online.  

Mayo Performing Arts Center (MPAC) is located at 100 South Street in Morristown, New Jersey.  MPAC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, presents a wide range of programs that entertain, enrich, and educate the diverse population of the region and enhance the economic vitality of Northern New Jersey. The 2021-2022 season is made possible, in part, by a grant the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as support received from the F.M. Players Guild of Leonia presents "The Normal Heart"

(LEONIA, NJ) -- The Players Guild of Leonia presents The Normal Heart by Larry Kramer weekends from March 21 through April 6, 2025. Larry Kramer's largely autobiographical play depicts the rise of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in New York City from 1981–1984. The production is directed by Claudia MacDermott.

Premiere Stages at Kean University Announces 2025 Bauer Boucher Playwriting Award Winners

(UNION, NJ) -- Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, has named Kean University student Tyler Sautner (Class of '25) and alumna Megan Tobias (Class of '19) as the winners of the 2025 Bauer Boucher Playwriting Awards, named for longtime donors W. John Bauer and Nancy Boucher. Both winners received a cash prize and a one-day developmental reading of their plays with a professional cast and director.
