Moving and Rousing Story of the ‘Freedom Riders’ of 1961

In the spring of 1961, hundreds of young people, black and white, boarded buses in the north headed for cities in the South to protest segregation on buses that had been outlawed by the courts but still used all over the southern states to discriminate against blacks.

The Words, Wit, and Life of Dorothy Parker Take the Stage at East Lynne Theater

“I’m not a writer with a drinking problem, I’m a drinker with a writing problem.” Dorothy Parker may be best known for the quotes that have long outlived her, but there was far more to the legendary writer than just her wit. Her life is celebrated and her work comes alive in East Lynne Theater Company’s production of “Dorothy Parker: A Certain Woman.” The play runs from June 15 through July 23 at The Cape May Presbyterian Church where the company is in residence.

(LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- New Jersey Repertory Company (NJ Rep) is currently presenting The Pin-Up Girls: A Musical Love Letter now through July 10th.  This is a new musical by James Hindman and Jeffrey Lodin, starring Sara Glancy, Brittany Jeffery, AJ Melnick, and Pheonix Vaughn. From The Andrews Sisters to Beyoncé! From World War One to Afghanistan. The Pin-Up Girls sing a cavalcade of hits inspired by real letters home from our troops overseas! Photographer John Posada was on hand to take photos during a preview performance.

Algonquin Arts Theatre Announces Cast and Creative Team for "Mary Poppins"

(MANASQUAN, NJ) -- Algonquin Arts Theatre has announced the cast and creative team for its first production of the 2022-2023 season, Mary Poppins. "Fiddler on the Roof" - A Musical Cry from the Embattled Ukraine

The storied musical Fiddler on the Roof is coming to Morristown’s Mayo Performing Arts Center June 17 and 18. In case you forgot, it’s the marvelous story of a family led by a tough old father, Tevye,  who puts up with a lot of change from his kids and struggles to hold his townspeople together in a changing and explosive political climate in 1905 in Russia.

(OCEAN, NJ) -- The Axelrod Performing Arts Center is presenting the musical Grease for three weeks, June 3-19 at the Vogel Auditorium. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the musical's Broadway opening, this production of Grease is directed and choreographed by Lisa Stevens. A New Look at an Asian-American Past

Emmy Award winning actress Jodi Long is the daughter of two prominent Asian-Americans who starred in Vaudeville for years and introduced Jodi to show business. Her parents, tap dancer Larry Leung and mom Kimye “Trudy” Tsunemitsu, a dancer, worked in show business from the 1950s. Jodi has starred in some of the best dramas and musicals about Asian-Americans, such as Flower Drum Song, among numerous other plays. Her parents toured the country for years.

"Fiddler on the Roof" comes to MPAC

(MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Mayo Performing Arts Center (MPAC) presents the Morristown engagement of the Tony Award®-nominated Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof at Friday-Saturday, June 17-18. Tickets range from $59-$109. This is the heartwarming story of fathers and daughters, husbands and wives, and life, love and laughter.   This classic musical is rich with Broadway hits, including “To Life (L’Chaim!),” “If I Were A Rich Man,” "Sunrise Sunset,” "Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” and “Tradition.”

Vivid Stage Presents New Play Reading Collaborations in June

(NEW YORK, NY) -- Manhattan Theatre Club has announced full casting for the world premiere of Vladimir, written by Erika Sheffer (Russian Transport) and directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan (MTC: Proof, Lillian Hellman's The Little Foxes). Vladimir runs from September 24 to November 10, 2024 at New York City Center Stage I (131 West 55th Street).
