McCarter's "Blues for an Alabama Sky" Finds Life After the Harlem Renaissance

Step back in time to 1930s New York. McCarter Theatre's production of "Blues for an Alabama Sky" tells the story of a youthful group of friends facing a crossroads at the end of the Harlem Renaissance and the beginning of the Great Depression. Art House INKubator Festival of Six Brand-new Plays

Are you looking for new, challenging theater that makes you think and feel something ... different? Sure, all theatre should probably do that, but a lot of long-run and revival offerings out there are as comfortable as an old shoe. Not necessarily a bad thing (I love old shoes), but nostalgia and familiarity are not the only flavors that can satisfy a palate. And some palates can only be satisfied by something really new. The 2023 INKubator New Play Festival is precisely what Hollywood giant Elia Kazan was looking for when he said that 30 years ago. Art House Productions is bringing you a festival of six brand-new plays by New Jersey-connected authors.

Penguin Project at Moorestown Theater Company

The Moorestown Theater Company is partnering with the award-winning Penguin Project to present "Annie JR." April 29 and 30, capping off Autism Awareness Month. Fourteen neuro-diverse actors and six neuro-typical mentors will act the roles and join the chorus to sing standards like "It's a Hard-knock Life" and "Tomorrow."

Vivid Stage presents Meet the Artist New Play Readings at The Summit Library

(SUMMIT, NJ) -- Vivid Stage, in residence at Oakes Center at 120 Morris Avenue in Summit, will present its annual Meet the Artist new play reading series on Wednesdays, May 3, 17, 24 and 31. All readings will take place at the Summit Public Library, 75 Maple Street, at 7:00pm. The series features works by Richard Willett, Joe Sutton, David Lee White, and Brianna Barrett.

(WEST HUDSON, NJ) -- The West Hudson Arts & Theater Co (WHATCo) is presenting You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown by Clark Gesner, Michael Mayer, Andrew Lippa, and Charles M. Schulz to West Hudson audiences for two weekends with the second runnin April 28-30 at WHATCo's new performance space, 15 Frank E. Rodgers Blvd. South, Harrison, NJ (the former Holy Cross School). Crossroads Theatre Roxxx On: History Through Entertainment

It was 2021. Ricardo Khan, the artistic director of the Crossroads Theatre Company, in New Brunswick, was scheduled to go home but someone asked him to stay in town just one more day to see Divinity Roxxx perform and meet her. He did.

State Theatre New Jersey Presents "Madagascar The Musical" On May 6th

(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- The fully renovated State Theatre New Jersey presents Madagascar the Musical on Saturday, May 6 at 2:00pm & 7:00pm. Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip-hop Hippo, and those hilarious, plotting penguins as they bound out of the zoo and onto the stage in this live musical adventure. The family-friendly musical features new original music and a colorful cast of larger-than-life characters from the iconic film. Tickets range from $19-$79.

State Theatre New Jersey 2023-24 Broadway Season Preview

(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey has announced its 2023-24 Broadway Season, featuring eight fantastic shows. The 2023-24 Season includes Tony® Award-winning hits, Broadway fan favorites, and multiple State Theatre debuts. Season tickets for the 2023-24 Broadway Series are now on sale.

Vicki Lewis and John Scherer to Star in "The Prom" at Axelrod PAC

(DEAL PARK, NJ) -- The Axelrod Performing Arts Center will mount New Jersey's first professional production of the Broadway musical, The Prom, beginning on May 5 and running through May 21. This new production is directed by Broadway actor and director Todd Buonopane (Broadway's Spelling Bee, Grease, Chicago and Cinderella) and choreographed by Brooke Engen (Hairspray the film) with music direction by Michael Gilch.
