(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- The first ever live on-air wedding in the 66 year history of WFMU will take place on Friday March 15, 2024 when Miss Yvonne Szymczak becomes the bride of Mr. Charles E. Reutter IV in a ceremony that will be attended by close friends and family at WFMU's Monty Hall in Jersey City, NJ; and listened to live on the air by many thousands more. The wedding will be broadcast via terrestrial FM signal as well as an online stream, where a live video component will also be available to those wishing to tune in to the nuptials.
Mr. Alan Smith, host of the “Six Degrees” program and ordained by The Church of The Subgenius, will be officiating.
WFMU is an independent listener supported and volunteer-run community radio station that was founded on the East Orange, NJ campus of Upsala College in 1958. The station became independent from Upsala a year prior to the colleges bankruptcy and closing, and has maintained its autonomy ever since thanks in part to its reputation and the large donor and volunteer pools that support it. In 1998 it relocated to its current location in Jersey City, NJ on the strength of listeners generosity and support.
Ms. Szymczak (otherwise known as DJ Stashu) has been a volunteer and host of the “Dance With Me, Stanley” program on WFMU since 2012, and it is where she and Mr. Reutter first met while volunteering in July of 2023. Mr. Reutter has been a periodic volunteer to WFMU; and until recently hosted the “Running A Temperature Revival” program on AshevilleFM, another community station based out of Asheville, NC.
The ceremony will be taking place in person and live on the air Friday March 15, 2024 beginning at six o’clock in the evening, eastern time. Those wishing to tune in may do so via 91.1FM in northeastern New Jersey, 91.9FM in New York City, NY and Rockland County, 90.1 for western New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania, and globally at WFMU.org where a live video of the proceedings will also be available. The wedding will be taking place during the non-profit stations annual fund-drive and donations made on behalf of the couple are appreciated.
