(RUMSON, NJ) -- The Premier Theatre Company will present the classic musical Oklahoma! by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II in Rumson, NJ on June 28, 29 and 30, 2024. Opening night is Friday, June 28. Friday and Saturday evening performances are at 7:30pm and Saturday and Sunday matinees are at 2:00pm.
Set in farm country in Indian Territory in 1906 before Oklahoma became a state, it tells the story of farm girl Laurey Williams and her courtship by two rival suitors, cowboy Curly McLain and the sinister and frightening farmhand Jud Fry. A secondary romance concerns cowboy Will Parker and his flirtatious fiancée, Ado Annie.
Leading the production team is Donna Battaglia as Director and Choreographer. The Music Director is Robert Sammond and the Producers are Ellen Ruane, Kitty Cleary and Brenden Kortenhaus. The cast includes Maria Heitmann as "Laurey" and Alex Dubinsky as "Curly" with Jessica Cogan as "Aunt Eller".
Oklahoma! was first produced in 1943. The music is by Richard Rodgers and the book and lyrics are by Oscar Hammerstein II. The Broadway musical is based on the play "Green Grow the Lilacs" by Lynn Riggs. The original production featured the choreography of Agnes de Mille.
Tickets for Oklahoma! are available for purchase online. Performances take place in the Rumson School District Auditorium (60 Forrest Avenue) Rumson, New Jersey.
