Staten Island! The Musical comes to Avenel PAC

originally published: 12/20/2022

(AVENEL, NJ) -- After well-received performances on opposite sides of the Hudson Bay – at the National Lighthouse Museum Promenade (Staten Island) and The Tank (Midtown Manhattan) – the memorable musical from the forgotten borough is sailing where no Staten Island Ferry has gone before: New Jersey. Staten Island! The Musical will bring the laughs to the Avenel Performing Arts Center for a 4-show run from January 13-15, 2023.

Tickets are on sale now; information can be found on thisIZZit.com. The show was created by Matt Izzo and Sal Volpe, is executive produced by Mario Garcia, and is directed by Katlyn Cohen.

Set in the forgotten borough of New York City, Staten Island! The Musical redefines what it means to be a resident of Richmond County. On an island where every day feels the same, everyone’s looking for something more – from the ferry deckhand stuck in his routine to the aspiring actress searching for any reason to sail away; from those who swear they’ll never leave to the dreamers who can only envision a future outside of the confines of Staten Island. An array of Island personalities embark on an unpredictable journey towards figuring out what “home” actually means.

The lovable tenacity of Staten Island – formerly represented by the ripe stereotypes of Jersey Shore and Mob Wives fame – is now depicted by the show’s unassailable cast of characters, led by Mike (William Burns), the Staten Island-obsessed ferry crew member; Ashley (Amanda Montgomery), the aspiring actress desperate to live in Manhattan; Jack (Thomas Gonzalez), the woefully oblivious city planner; Marie (Danielle Oliveira), the nosy neighbor who’s overly possessive of her parking spot; and Chuck (Jami Declerck), the dead groundhog who once slipped out of Mayor de Blasio’s hands – and into the role as show narrator. The two-hour, family-friendly musical has something for everyone; audiences are falling in love with earworm songs such as the signature “You’re In My Spot” and romantic “Pavers.”

Staten Island! The Musical will perform at the Avenel Performing Arts Center on Friday, January 13 at 7:30pm; Saturday, January 14 at 2:00pm & 7:30pm; Sunday, January 15 at 2:00pm.
