(POMPTON LAKES, NJ) -- StageWorks Theatre Group presents Violet across two weekends (May 9-12 and May 16-19, 2024). It is based on "The Ugliest Pilgrim" by Doris Betts. As a girl, Violet was struck by a wayward axe blade when her father was chopping wood, leaving her with a visible scar across her face. With enough money finally saved she's traveling across the Deep South in 1964 towards a miracle – the healing touch of a TV evangelist who will make her beautiful.
Although she may not succeed in having the scar on her face healed, Violet is able to repair those scars that are lying deeper than her skin. On the way, she meets a young, African-American soldier whose love for her reaches far past her physical "imperfections."
Violet features Music by Jeanine Tesori and Lyrics and Book by Brian Crawley. The StageWorks production is Directed by John Zisa with Music Direction by Nicole D'Angelo and Choreography by Lindsey Garnhart.
Performances take place May 9-19, 2024 with shows Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 3:00pm. Tickets are available for purchase online. All performances take place at Studio 237, located at 237 Hamburg Turnpike in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey.
