(SPRING LAKE, NJ) -- South Street Players presents The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) in Wesley Hall across two weekends from May 3-12, 2024. This play, written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield, parodies the plays of William Shakespeare with all of them being performed in comically shortened or merged form by only three actors. The production is produced and directed by SSP Board Member Rob Sullivan.
Typically, the actors use their real names and play themselves rather than specific characters. They begin with a parody of Romeo and Juliet. Next, they caricature Titus Andronicus as a cooking show. Following that is Othello done as a rap song.
An irreverent, fast-paced romp through the Bard's plays, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) was London's longest-running comedy having clocked a very palpable nine years in London's West End at the Criterion Theatre! Join these madcap actors as they weave their wicked way through all of Shakespeare's Comedies, Histories and Tragedies in one wild ride that will leave you breathless and helpless with laughter.
Performance dates are Friday, May 3 & Friday, May 10 at 8:00pm; Saturday, May 4 & Saturday, May 11 at 8:00pm; and Sunday, May 5 and Sunday, May 12 at 2:00pm. Performances take place in Wesley Hall (4th and Mercer Streets) in Spring Lake, New Jersey. Tickets are available for purchase online.
