originally published: 02/12/2023

(SOMERVILLE, NJ) -- Somerville High School presents: Disney's Newsies, The Musical with performances from March 2-4, 2023. Based on the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, this Disney musical tells the story of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big city. After publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys’ expense, Kelly and his fellow newsies take action. With help from the beautiful female reporter Katherine Plumber, all of New York City soon recognizes the power of “the little man.”

Newsies The Musical first premiered at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ and ran from September 25 to October 16, 2011. It opened on Broadway the following March and ran for over 1,000 performances.

Performances take place Thursday, March 2 at 7:00pm; Friday, March 3 at 7:00pm; and Saturday, March 4 at 7:00pm. Tickets are $15 for adults; $13 for students.  Tickets are available for purchase online.

Somerville High School Auditorium is located at 222 Davenport Street in Somerville, New Jersey.

EVENT PREVIEWS

Although the necessity for the film is troubling, the people followed throughout We Are Not Machines (No Somos Máquinas) turn a horrible situation into fuel for reconstruction, choosing to fight with passion and determination against the system that affects them rather than passively falling victim to it.
