Topping off a fruitful year of music, singer-songwriter Shane Cooley recently released two holiday singles, "Elf Rights" and "Snow Globe". The singles are available on all digital music platforms.
Cooley is no stranger to writing holiday-themed songs. His 2021 EP, "Winter's Walk," and 2011 single, "Window Shopping for a Long Lost Lover" delve into more obscure corners of the nostalgia and deep feelings we encounter during this season. These two new singles are no exception. "Elf Rights" is a cheeky, comedic anthem for Santa's helpers on strike, re-visited from a teenage Cooley tune from twenty years ago with a modern perspective. "Snow Globe" is a dreamy new holiday composition laced with warm, jazzy elements and festive jingles and jangles.
Both tracks were self-produced at Cooleyland Recording in Mollusk, VA, with Cooley performing all of the instruments. "Writing and recording holiday music has been a long-standing tradition of mine, even in my early years as a musician," said Cooley. "I would hide out in my parents' garage in my early teens, making audible Christmas cards. I love the challenge of finding the tones and textures that create that holiday feel, with my own personal twist."
"Elf Rights / Snow Globe" is Cooley's final solo release of 2023, after a slew of singles throughout the year. His latest 2-track release, "Voices / Black Moon" continues to receive international indie acclaim. Along with releasing music, Cooley kicked off 2023 performing at The Sandler Center in Virginia Beach for the "Out of the Box" Emerging Artist series, and toured around the Western United States with Texas-based singer-songwriter Lori Ellen, and performed at several music festivals.
Earlier in 2023, Ushuaia & the Wanderlust Orchestra released their album The End of the World with two co-writes from Cooley. The album breached 100,000 streams on Spotify, and is on it's third vinyl pressing at Target and Amoeba stores. Cooley's latest solo album, Forest released on vinyl in 2022. His prolific catalogue of music spans over twenty years. With plans to begin work on a new full-length album, Cooley has high hopes for 2024.
