Edward Dawson Jr.’s boxing career began in 2006 at the Plainfield Boxing Academy in Plainfield, New Jersey. Edward was just nine years old. He would spend the next nine years gathering titles such as a 2x Diamond Glove Champion, a 2x Silver Glove Champion, a 2x State Champion, and would eventually qualify for the 2010 Junior Regional Olympics, where he placed fourth.
Edward’s love for weight lifting began budding in 2012. In an experimental fashion, he took this newfound love and sought out to try other martial arts forms, such as Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. IN 2014, Edward stepped into the grappling scene, competing in the NAGA (North American Grappling Association), and impressively securing 2nd place in the 160-179.9 weight class. This experience ignited his interest in explosive movements, proving beneficial in both grappling and Muay Thai, where powerful motions are paramount.
Transitioning to full-time lifting in 2015, he embraced the weight room of the local YMCA, where he learned from seasoned lifters, and would eventually receive his certification as a personal trainer in 2018. In the year 2020, Edward was forced to push his powerlifting training aside as he prepared for the PPT (Physical Performance Test) for the NJ Civil Service Commision in hopes of becoming a firefighter in his hometown, Plainfield.
His triumphant return to the powerlifting stage occurred in February of 2023, at the WNPF (World Natural Powerlifting Federation) NJ State Championships, where he placed first in the 198 weight class and was awarded with Best Overall Lifter, lifting an impressive total of 1550 pounds. This win allowed Edward to not only set NJ State records, but also qualify himself for the WNPF’s World Meet, which took place in November of 2023. Seizing victory again, he claimed First Place and Best Overall Lifter. Edward's pursuit of excellence continues as he identifies and addresses his weaknesses, gearing up to compete again in June 2024.
