Ocean County Artists' Guild Showcase at Ocean County Library in October

originally published: 09/20/2022

(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- The Ocean County Library Toms River Branch presents “Expressions,” a display by members of the Ocean County Artists’ Guild, throughout the month of October. The exhibit is located in the Branch’s 2nd Floor Gallery, will showcase the diverse talent of the Ocean County Artists’ Guild members. The exhibit will include artwork in oils, acrylics, watercolors, and photographs.

The Island Heights-based nonprofit group was founded in 1957 by local artists who met regularly to paint, to share ideas, and to pursue a goal of promoting visual arts in the community.

Today, the Guild’s promotion of art in Ocean County regularly attracts creative individuals and patrons from all corners of the shore region for classes, workshops, and events.

Visitors to the OCAG website find this statement: “Our mission is to serve the artists and community; to provide an outlet and training for artistic talent, to enhance the quality of life for the residents and thereby attract newcomers, and to provide an attraction to draw tourists to the community.”

“Expressions” is free and open to the public. Registration is not required. For more information, visit the Toms River Branch, 101 Washington Street, call (732) 349-6200, or visit www.theoceancountylibrary.org/events. Images Courtesy of Ocean County Artists Guild.

Leandro

Leandro Comrie: "A Quiet Odyssey"

What gives Leandro Comrie's "King" the right to rule? Is it his raiment, decorated with scores of curlicues of white and royal purple paint, signifying motion and activity and cinched savagely at the waist? Is it his arms, long enough to touch his ankles, formidable and thick, draped at his sides in a gesture of ease and preternatural balance? How about the magenta halo behind his head, bright and electric, suggestive of sanctification in some other world? Or could it be the face, with its crown of wavy hair, full lips and slanted white eyebrows, and lower jaw squared against all adversaries. He looks confident and ready. But the crimson dot he stands on and surveys is barely big enough to contain his boat-like shoes.
