NJ Native Country Artist Gary Frost Releases "Shutup Springsteen"

originally published: 06/28/2022

Yup, he said it! Many scenarios come to mind as to the meaning of the new video and single “Shutup Springsteen” by Monmouth County country music artist Gary Frost, but it’s not what you think...

The song title could easily be interpreted as disrespectful to the music legend but as Gary explains: “It’s really about relationships and a case of bad timing. I’m a New Jersey native so it’s almost a prerequisite to be a Springsteen fan and I definitely am, plus my family also has a personal history with him.”

This is a song about love and loss. As Gary tells it: “Springsteen music has always been a big part of my life and for me like so many other people, it definitely evokes many emotions. When I was writing the song I was thinking particularly about his love songs and what special significance they might have to people in relationships. Then I asked myself a question…what does the song mean when the relationship is over?”

“Most people can relate to having a song that they consider “our song”. The song starts playing, you immediately start smiling and thinking of your special someone, maybe you are singing along and it’s such a great feeling. Unfortunately after a breakup the same song still stirs up feelings and not the good kind. That’s how I got the idea for “Shutup Springsteen”.

It’s not just the song’s title that cleverly plays with words. Sprinkled throughout the lyrics are six more Springsteen song titles such as "Dancing In The Dark" and “Thunder Road” which Gary uses to illustrate the feelings of a break up.

Influenced by his father’s love of Springsteen’s music, Gary became a fan. The personal connection deepens as Gary’s grandfather used to work at Slattery’s Gas Station in Freehold and as a youth Springsteen lived right next door. “My grandfather would give Bruce quarters for the cigarette machine, and when he was outside playing his guitar squirt him with a garden hose. In the years to come Bruce wrote a song about those days, and eventually donated a Pink Cadillac to Mr. Slattery, so there are many things that I feel link me to his music.” Explains Gary.

Recorded in Nashville “Shutup Springsteen” the single is on all streaming platforms.

At just 23 years old Gary Frost is shaking up the Country Music scene. His previous singles “World Without You” and “Angel In a Small Town” have become favorites at his energetic live shows. Gary is currently recording his first full-length album.
