(LAMBERTVILLE, NJ) -- Music Mountain Theatre (MMT) presents Sweet Charity, the classic 1966 musical, weekends from May 24 to June 9, 2024. It is the seventh mainstage show of MMT's 2024 season.
With music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields, and a book by Neil Simon, Sweet Charity is famous for the Bob Fosse choreography of the 1960s, where the audience is introduced to the world of taxi dancers and seedy New York City clubs. It is based on an original screenplay by Federico Fellini, Tullio Pinelli, and Ennis Flaiano.
Follow the romantic trials and tribulations of Charity Hope Valentine, “a girl who wanted to be loved.” Though her job as a taxi dancer at the Fandango Ballroom may be decidedly undesirable, Charity’s hopeful romanticism and unfailing optimism lift her out of her circumstances and help her reach for a life beyond bad relationships and barely making ends meet.
MMT’s production of Sweet Charity stars Jaimie Geddes as Charity Hope Valentine, Patrick Lavery as Oscar Lindquist, the neurotic, shy actuary who might just be the true love Charity has been searching for, Jill Gibilisco and Eva Guasconi was Nickie and Helene, Charity’s fellow dancers and closest confidants, and John Fischer as Herman, owner of the Fandango Ballroom.
Sweet Charity will run on the MMT stage from May 24th–June 9th, with 8:00pm evening performances on Fridays and Saturdays and 3:00pm matinee performances on Saturdays and Sundays. For all MMT shows, discounted tickets are available for students, seniors, and members of the military, as well as for subscribers to MMT, and in group sales of fifteen or more. Tickets are available for purchase online.
With iconic musical numbers such as “Big Spender,” “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” and “There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This,” audiences are destined to fall in love with Sweet Charity’s limitless spirit as she lives life “hopefully ever after,” with the vocal and dancing talent that only MMT can offer.
