(PRINCETON, NJ) -- McCarter Theatre Center presents Mark Morris Dance Group on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 8:00pm in the Matthews Theater. Since its first performance in 1980, the Mark Morris Dance Group has received "highest praise for their technical aplomb, their musicality, and their sheer human authenticity" (Bloomberg News).
With a repertory that ranges from 17th and 18th century works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Henry Purcell to more recent scores by Ethan Iverson, Lou Harrison, and Henry Cowell, the Mark Morris Dance Group has toured with its own music ensemble since 1996. The company returns to the McCarter Theatre with a selection of innovative works than span the decades. Pieces expected to be performed include: A Wooden Tree; Excursions; - intermission -; Candleflowerdance; Castor and Pollux.
Founded in New York City in 1980 by artistic director and choreographer Mark Morris, the Mark Morris Dance Group (MMDG) has been called "the preeminent modern dance organization of our time" (Yo-Yo Ma) with Mark Morris deemed "The most successful and influential choreographer alive, and indisputably the most musical."
